Me: I wish I could, but I’m in the middle of a riveting lecture. No can do.

Ship: Fine, party pooper. I’ll just die here of boredom, and you're going to go to my funeral, sob your pretty eyes out, and then throw yourself onto my grave, demanding to be buried with me out of guilt.

This has me grinning like an idiot.

Turning my phone off vibrate, I do my best not to look at it for the rest of class. My head is a mess, I have no idea what to do or where to go when it comes to things with me and Toby, but I’m going to try to stay busy to keep my mind off things the best I can.

Anytime I think of Toby, I want to cry and I feel sick. I don’t understand why he thinks it’s wrong to want me. We’ve never once felt like brother and sister.

I don’t care about the technicality of it, so why does he?

Is he ashamed of me? What people would think about us being together?

Nope, not thinking about that right now, I refuse to cry in class.

I wish we never kissed, never did what we did that night of the movie, because I don’t think we’re ever going to be able to go back to the way things were before.

I miss my best friend and I want him back, even if it hurts my heart to only have him that way. But it’s not going to happen.

One day at a time, Lilly, I remind myself.

“COME ON!” BIANCA PULLS on my arm. “I’m starving.”

“Yes, just a second!” I grumble as I try to quickly finish sending an email to one of my professors. “You know I can’t type and walk at the same time.”

She laughs. “Last time you did that, you walked into a pole.”

“My forehead hurts just remembering it.” I type the last few words and press send. “There, okay. We can go now.”

“Finally! I can’t believe you were going to let me starve to death.”

“Your brother is right, you are overly dramatic.” I giggle as we walk down the sidewalk toward the cafeteria.

“Oh, so I see. We’re going with betrayal today. Awesome,” she says sarcastically, nodding her head.

“You're too much.” I giggle harder.

“Who's betraying who?” a familiar voice sounds from behind me.

Spinning around, I smile at Ryan. “Hey, you.” I give him a hug and then step back. “I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve missed you too.” He grins, ruffling up my hair. I just grin and pat it down when he stops. “Sorry, I’ve been so MIA. Between school, practice, and games, I hardly have enough time to eat.”

“I don’t know how you sports guys do it,” Bianca says. “If it messes with my time for a social life, I’m out.”

“What can I say, ball is my life.” He shrugs.

“Spoken like a true jock. At least you're not an asshole, like most,” Bianca responds.

Ryan joins us as we continue to walk. “Your brother isn’t an asshole. Same with Jonas,” I point out, leaving Toby out of it because he’s still on my shit list.

“Okay, wrong. My brother is one of the biggest assholes ever.”

“To you.” I grin. “He’s a sweet goofball with me.”

She narrows her eyes. “I said what I said.”

Grinning, I roll my eyes.
