Grabbing the papers I tucked into my suit jacket, I hand them over to Emerson. “Emerson had me dig into Tobin to see how we can get your tuition money to you and away from him. We’ve uncovered a lot.” I take a seat on the coffee table. “While Tobin was crafty in some things, he was shit at covering his tracks because the fucker was so sure that no one would think to look into any of this. He also didn’t count on you ending up with people who cared enough about you to do so.”

“What did you find out?” she asks, back straight, hands folded on her lap as she listens eagerly.

“Long story short, Tobin bribed a judge to sign over everything that was left to you, not only from your parents but your grandparents from each side as well. Tobin told you that all that was left for you was a million dollars. But Scarlett, not only was he lying about that, but the million is actually a billion, and there's also tons of real estate and other assets that were left to you.”

Her eyes go wide. Her mouth opens, then closes, then opens again. “He stole everything from me,” she whispers.

I nod, my gut turning. “That's not the only thing. Tobin was never meant to take care of you after your parents died. In their will, they left custody to your aunt on your mother's side.”

“W-what?” Her face looks absolutely devastated, and my heart breaks. “He told me my aunt didn’t want me.”

“He lied. She was never even given the chance to take you in Cupcake.” Tears start to fall from her eyes, and I pull her up and out of the chair, taking her seat and pulling her back down into my lap. “Shhh. Everything is going to be okay. We’re going to get back everything that was meant to be yours.”

“Fucking slime ball,” Emerson sneers. “Of course, no one left that rat bastard anything. He’s nothing. I’m surprised no one put this together. It would make sense. Tobin is the oldest, but I heard that your grandparents disowned him. This was not only his way to get back at the people who he believed wronged him, but for him to get everything he thinks he deserves.”

“What do we do now?” Scarlett asks.

“We have two options. We can take him to court, and we would win, but it would take time. The only thing with that, is, that it puts a target on your back in the meantime because we all know he wouldn’t go down without a fight.”

“Not happening. I will not put our wife and baby at risk,” Emerson snarls. I don’t miss the fact that he said our wife; I’m fucking loving it.

“The other option is, in the event of his death, everything gets transferred back over to you.”

“So we kill him,” she states, looking up at us with confidence in her eyes.

My brows jump and Emerson looks at her in surprise.

“Are you sure you're okay with that, Little Star?”

She nods her head. “He took everything from me, ripped me away from a life I could have had. One where I was loved and wanted. Tried to rob me of my future. He’s not a good person, and if this is how he treats his family, I can only assume how much of a monster he is to the outside world. He made my life hell. He needs to pay.”

“Then it’s simple. Tobin dies.”

CHAPTER 18

SCARLETT

It’s crazy how easy it’s been settling into my new way of life. So much has happened in such a short amount of time.

Over the past month since we’ve gotten back from the honeymoon, I’ve spent a lot of my time getting enrolled in college, and getting everything I need. Thankfully, it’s only a few weeks into the fall semester so with some extra studying at home, I’ll be able to catch up on the few weeks I’ve missed.

Emerson wasn’t initially on board with me going to school. Not that he didn't support me, he’s just worried that now that I’m his wife, it’s put a target on my back. He doesn’t want me to be out alone.

We reminded Emerson of the excuse we gave Emerson’s father as to why Alistair's still around the mansion, as my bodyguard, so why not put it to good use?

And that's how I’m able to be here today, on my first day of college.

The smile on my face is so wide that it hurts. I don’t care, I’m so damn happy to be here. It’s the first time I’ve had any sense of normalcy in my life.

With Tobin, I was forced to be on a short leash. With Emerson and Alistair, I might not be free to come and go by myself as I please, but I know if I wanted to do something, they would make it happen.

Honestly, I haven’t had the chance to see why the people of our world are so afraid of them. Sure, Emerson is broody and dark, but he’s also terribly sexy and dominant. Alistair though I have no clue why anyone is scared of him. I’ve seen nothing but a sexy cuddle machine.

Although, I haven’t really seen them in their element. When I’m home, we’re in Emerson’s room, the pool, the library, or the red room.

When Emerson is off working, Alistair is with me. I’ve been wanting to get out more, like the movies or shopping, but Emerson never seems to have the time.

I get that he’s a busy man with a very important job, but I miss him when he’s gone. Sometimes, I wish we could all just stay in bed naked all day.
