Darian chuckles, teasingly claiming, “Clearly, he enjoyed mine more.”
I shoot a playful glare at Darian before softening my expression as I turn to Val. “It’s up to you. Who gets the tequila?”
Val huffs and strolls into the kitchen, his gaze fixed on the counter where the two pizzas await. He lifts his upper body, leaning over to get a closer look.
With a glance at both of us, he finally points his nose at the meat lovers and in that moment, his ears perk forward.
I erupt in victorious cheers. “Steaks for Val tomorrow!” I exclaim, as Val saunters back to the couch.
Darian, on the other hand, pinches the bridge of his nose in feigned exasperation, “Betrayal. Absolute betrayal.” he muses.
I cackle, tearing the fridge open, retrieving the tequila and unscrewing the lid.
Darian slides two shot glasses over to me with a wide grin. Downing one, I feel hardly any burn as it travels down my throat before immediately refilling the glass.
“We do have places to be tomorrow, you know,” Darian reminds me, blinking at the liquor.
I meet his gaze and raise an eyebrow, “But tonight, we are free.” I declare before throwing back the tequila shot and clinking the glass onto the countertop with a satisfying thud.
We tidy up the remnants of the pizza contest and indulge in another bottle of wine before we settle in front of the TV.
The TV turns on to breaking news on the screen: a local museum has been burglarized, and authorities scrambling to identify the thief or what they took as Darian flips the channel to the streaming app to choose a movie.
We doze off on the couch at some point during the movie, and I awaken to find myself in the comfort of the master bedroom.
Darian is wrapped around me tightly with Val peacefully nestled at my other side. Waking up sandwiched between these two men is a scenario that has become all too familiar.
I squirm against Darian, feeling the unmistakable hardness pressing against my back.
“Keep doing that and we won’t be going anywhere today, Lara.” His voice, laced with a hint of playful warning, sends shivers down my spine.
“Well, you may want to move because I need to use the bathroom,” I choke out as I roll onto my side, trying to relieve the pressure on my bladder.
Darian chuckles, and gracefully slips off the blankets, standing up to make way for me. “At what point is Val going to be the one that moves?” he muses.
My hands instinctively move to my chest in feigned shock before I point toward Val peacefully sleeping like a big furry angel on the bed. “Just look at how cute he is, snoozing away,” I remark, unable to hide the affection in my voice.
Val’s ears twitch ever so slightly, though his eyes remain shut. I imagine he’s silently laughing at our exchange, and the corner of my lips twitch as I try and fail to suppress a smile.
“Cute? You do realize he’s a red-blooded male under all that fur, right?” Darian raises an eyebrow.
I turn back to face him. “Oh, believe me, I haven’t forgotten,” I reply, my voice thick with amusement. “But that doesn’t change a thing, does it?” Darian’s face flashes for a moment, but my attention is distracted by my bladder.
Unable to put it off, I hurry to the washroom as Darian skillfully prepares breakfast and we both get ready for the convention. Opting for a bold and confident look, I slip into a pair of jeans that accentuate my curves, with a form-fitting black tank top. The ensemble is completed with sleek black wedge heels, adding a touch of elegance to the outfit.
I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, appreciating the inch of skin revealed at my waist and the tank top.
The drive to the convention center is peaceful.
That’s actually how I could describe my time with Darian and Val since we rescued him.
It’s as though I’m on a cloud, floating through the sky, lifted by the very air I breathe.
Part of me wonders if he feels the same.
As we approach our destination, Darian smoothly parks the car in the VIP section and I turn to him with a raise brow.
Meeting my gaze, his lips twitch.
