He chuckles darkly and my thighs clench, “We’ll see about that.”

I glance around the room and see Dan come sauntering back in. His canine eyes narrow on Caspian leaving. I can’t help but feel appreciative that he gave us privacy, though I doubt he could escape the sounds I made with his canine hearing.

My cheeks flush as I replay what happened, and I crawl into bed.

I’m going to sleep like a rock.

My eyes open to soft light seeping through the windows and the smell of coffee, eggs, and...

Bacon.

My eyes fully snap open, and I shoot out of bed while my stomach growls angrily.

How long did I sleep for?

I walk quickly to the bathroom and pull on the jeans and blouse, snatching my phone from the side table. No word from Tammy, 2 messages from Candace and Henry’s chat, nothing from Claire. Sighing, I send something to Tammy first.

Lara:Hey girl, haven’t heard from you. Are you doing alright?

I watch the message deliver and my chest tightens with anxiety before opening the group chat.

Candace:Don’t forget about your appointment with Claire on Monday, Lara!

Henry:Yeah, and we’re going for dinner after too. I’ll water the plants today, they’ll be good throughout the weekend.

Lara:Thanks guys. I’ll text you later, don’t get into any trouble while I’m out. Notify me if there’s any emergencies or anything out of the normal happens.

Candace reads the messages and starts typing.

Candace:Okie Dokie Artichokie! Enjoy your time off and don’t forget the condoms!

My cheeks flush as I remember the night before. Granted, we didn’t get to the point of needing protection, but if we had...

God bless female contraception and IUD's.

I’m thankful I had the foresight when I was younger to research ways to avoid unwanted pregnancies. I had never had a boyfriend throughout my teenage years into adulthood.

I hadn’t felt or known physical attraction, really, until I met Caspian and unfortunately, as much as I dislike admitting it, Darian.

I still knew back then that men are animals and take whatever they want when opportunity arises. I did enjoy drinking more than I should so it was logical to have a form of birth control that couldn’t be forgotten and lasts a long time.

A ten year implanted form of contraception seemed like the best decision in the moment and current me couldn’t be happier for it. Even still, I am determined to ensure Caspian and I don’t do anything like that again.

Following the overwhelming scent to the kitchen, I find Caspian standing over the counter. The room is large, it has white and gray marble countertop, pristine white cupboards, a stainless steel fridge, stove and oven.

Three plates are set next to one another on the counter, now with eggs, bacon and toast on each. I suppress a giggle at the notion that we’re feeding a wolf as we would a person as I plop down on one of the seats.

Caspian places the egg pan into the sink and moves to the cupboard to fill a glass with orange juice before sliding it across the counter to me.

I take a few sips as he passes a plate and silverware over to me, before walking to the coffee machine to pour some into a mug.

My brain falters as he hands me the full mug and for once stops working altogether as our eyes meet. I realize after a long moment that he had actually said something to me and I blink to try to bring myself back to reality.

“I am, so, sorry. Can you repeat that?”

Caspian’s lips twitch, and he laughs under his breath lightly, “Cream or milk? Sugar?”

My cheeks heat as I nod, breaking eye contact to avoid zoning out again, “Cream and sugar please. Thank you.”
