We both take a shot, chasing it with a lime and I grind my teeth to avoid making a face but fail miserably as I shiver.

“I thought you could handle liquor.” Caspian says sarcastically, his lips twitch upward as he watches my reaction with amusement.

“Not my fault their tequila is bottom of the barrel” I mumble and take another sip of my mixed drink, finishing the last of it.Caspian lets out a laugh with a broad smile that reaches his luminous green eyes.

In an effort to recover from embarrassment, I playfully push at his chest and grab another shot, placing one before him and the empty ones near the edge of the table.

As if summoned by the empty glasses, the waitress walks up with the drinks that Caspian ordered, setting them in front of us and taking the empty ones.

“Would you like anything else?” She doesn’t direct her question at nor including me and my face flushes with anger.

Chill, Lara.

“Do you want anything else?” His voice completely blanks my mind, and I’m flushing for all different reasons now as our eyes lock.

“Maybe a round of water for both of us, please, with lemon,” I tell the waitress with my head slightly turned to her, but my gaze hasn’t left Caspian’s.

“And for you, sir? Anything else for you?” Her voice is sickly sweet, and I peel my gaze from Caspian to look at her as she bats her eyes at him.

I wonder if he’ll be willing to bail me out of jail when I’m done with her.

“I’m good for now.”

My entire body freezes.

For now?

She nods with a smile as her eyes flick to mine. With a smug look she whirls and hurries to the next table while I’m stuck breathless at his choice of words and deliberate actions.

Am I overthinking or reading too much into this?

“So.” My voice cracks and I wince, before clearing my throat.

“So.” His tone is fully amused now, and I know if I look at him, I will fold. I decide to do the logical thing any woman would do, and focus on getting our tequila and limes in order.

“Take another shot and then we talk about how long you were stalking me before your brother captured me.” I take a moment to glance at him, and he’s grinning almost too much, “Creeper.” I mutter and his smile grows wider.

I quickly grab a glass and toss it back, and chug the mixed cocktail that the waitress brought out. Caspian downs his shot and takes a long sip of his own drink.

“Do you want me to carry you out of here?” He asks with a hint of amusement and I flush at the mental image.

“I can handle my liquor, as you well know. Now explain.” He grimaces and downs the rest of his drink to avoid the question and my suspicion rises, “So the bar, you knew who I was, clearly.”

He nods, “Yes, and I knew of the man that was after you. That night I followed him to the parking lot and he waited for you but left when he saw me waiting by the exit. I followed you home and staked out overnight in case he decided to make a move while you were both out of it.”

Holy fuck. So that’s how he knew where I lived?

My jaw goes slack, and I gape at him for a moment before I recollect myself.

“Well, I suppose I should be thanking you, then.”

“Later.” He says with a wink and my entire body feels like it’s suddenly on fire.

God. How am I supposed to sleep in the same room as this man tonight and avoid doing anything?

It takes conscious effort to focus on the conversation, as I file away the information.

A thought dawns on me and the heat in my body suddenly runs cold. My question is no more than a whisper, “Do you think that he gave Tammy’s information to your brother after that night?”
