I raise an eyebrow, “And here I thought it was the whipped cream that sent him over the moon,” I remark, my voice filled with amusement.

Darian laughs loudly, his smile genuine and my heart nearly stops in my chest at the sight, “Unfortunately, pup cups are not his preferred treat,” he says, sliding a cup of coffee and a tray of creamers and sugar my way.

I sit at the table and eagerly take a bite of the waffle. It’s so good that I can’t help but groan in delight, placing my head against the back of my hands in sheer bliss.

It’s fluffy, crunchy, and sweet but not overpowering.

Fuck, this is good.

Darian chuckles at my reaction, and I raise my head to meet his gaze.

“Is it safe to assume the waffles meet your standards, too?” He asks, his mismatched eyes bright with amusement.

I reply with a nod as Darian’s phone chimes on the table. I watch as he briefly checks the message and his expression grows serious.

Sensing the sudden tension in the air, I speak softly, “Time to go?”

He nods, “We leave in 30.”

“I’ll go get dressed then. Any idea where we’re going?” I ask, mentally preparing to gather my things.

Darian rubs his jaw thoughtfully, “It looks like we’re heading to the coast.”

A wave of apprehensive excitement crashes over me, knowing we’re going to be closer to Tammy. We quickly pack our carry-ons while Darian arranges a flight. He’s been on the phone intermittently since we received the location, and although I can’t hear his conversations, he seems to be incredibly focused on setting up our trip.

Following him to the garage with my bag in tow, he pulls back a large tarp off of a sleek black truck, placing our carry-ons behind the seat as Val settles in beside them.

“We were able to arrange for Val to come with us on the plane?” I ask, curious why he’d be coming with us if he is unable to fly.

Darian mouth curves into a grin, “Yes, we’re taking my private jet. It’ll be just the three of us. We’ll head to the executive airport nearby, and it’ll be a direct flight.”

I gape at him.

A private jet? Who is this guy?

His eyes sparkle with amusement at my reaction, “Have you ever been on a private jet before?”

I shake my head in response, a mixture of guilt and excitement conflict within me as I quietly justify the use of a private jet, and we make our wayto the airport.

Chapter 28

We leave the truck in a quiet satellite lot just outside the airport, before entering the main doors of the building to check in. After passing through security, we navigate past the bustling corridor lined with small fine dining restaurants, and various lounges on the way to our designated gate.

I stop abruptly, feeling the familiar tug and I freeze.

In an airport of all places?!

Darian takes a few more steps ahead before he realizes that I’ve stopped and turns to look at me, his brows furrowing in concern. Val moves to stand by my side protectively, his gaze fixed on my hand resting on my abdomen.

I slowly turn to my left and let out a gasp as a sharp pain shoots through my body and Darian quickly comes to my side glancing around briefly.

“Here, it’s probably this way.” He says, his hand firmly gripping my elbow to provide support as he guides me in the other direction and gradually the pain subsides, transforming into a strong, persistent tug.

We arrive in front of a Tiffany & co., and Darian places our carry-ons outside while I stand in the doorway, sucking in a deep breath.

I go move, but Darian places his hand between us, stopping me in my tracks.

“I’ll search for it. You stay here, alright?”
