Jess laughed and said, “You better stay off Uncle Mayor. Let me go rescue poor Yendi.”

She walked away, and Nesha approached me, wrapping her arms around me. “You look happy, cuz. I love that look on you. If Yendi does that for you, you definitely need to make it official.”

Changing the subject, I said, “I thought you didn’t want a shower? What happened to that?”

She rolled her eyes. “Evette, Sharon, and Olivia wouldn’t hear of it, nor my sisters. They said the first of the next generation of Hendersons should be welcomed in style. Not to mention Lennox’s mother was in on the shenanigans. I didn’t stand a chance against all of them. They’ll be doing Tyeis’s shower in two weeks. I told them they could have done ours together. She might go into labor with those twins before then.”

I chuckled. “Where are they?”

“On their way. Tyeis wasn’t feeling too good today. I told them to just stay home, but she said Angel would have a heart attack if they didn’t come.”

I frowned slightly as Nesha continued. “She has a thing for your little brother.”

“Aww shit. Rylan would hurt that poor girl. She wouldn’t know what hit her. She way too innocent and too young.”

“This I know,” Nesha responded through her laughter.

Lennox approached and shook my hand then slid his arms around Nesha, caressing her belly. She was out there and could probably go at any moment. She was worried about Tyeis, but she had one foot in the hospital her damn self. Looking around the barn, I saw Uncle Storm and Yendi on the other side, talking to Malachi, Philly, Ryder, Legend, Zayson, and Red. Yendi had a big smile on her face, and I could see them asking her questions.

Legend, Red, and Zayson had might as well been my uncles too. They’d been around the family for nearly twenty years now. They were rodeo circuit legends, especially Legend. He’d groomed our cousin Malachi to be just as great of a bull rider as he was. Red was an amazing steer wrestler, besides being Legend’s wingman. He broke record after record for the ten plus years he bulldogged. He and Zayson still team roped from time to time. I was pretty sure Yendi was being filled in on all that information.

I slowly shook my head and walked over there to go rescue her. Evidently Jessica’s rescue efforts weren’t successful while I was talking to Nesha. When I got close, I heard Uncle Storm say, “Here come his ass. ’Bout time. I was wondering how long you was gon’ let me take her all over this barn.”

I grabbed Yendi’s hand as she said, “Nice meeting y’all. Good seeing you again, Philly and Ryder.”

They all responded to her and before I could totally get her away from them, she said, “And Mayor, it’s always good to see you.”

“Take note, Jakari. Yendi, the pleasure is mine. You ever need a job or get tired of HJ, come see me.”

I rolled my eyes, a common occurrence whenever I was around Uncle Storm. “Baby, Aunt Jen and my mama cooked the food. Nesha is stuck on spaghetti and fried chicken right now, so that’s what they cooked.”

“Sounds good to me.”

I smiled at her as we went to the buffet style tables and fixed our plates. Spaghetti was the last thing I wanted to eat, but it would do its job and kill these hunger pains. I put a few pieces of chicken on my plate and only a little spaghetti. Everyone else had either already eaten or had already fixed their food so there was no need in being modest or considerate. Well, except for Decaurey and Tyeis. There was still more than enough left for them.

Once we sat, I slid my arm around Yendi’s waist. “I’m sorry for pushing you away.”

She put her finger over my lips. “We don’t have to talk about that right now. Let’s eat and enjoy the festivities. We can talk once everything is over.”

I gave her a slight smile as Uncle WJ got everyone’s attention. “We need some men up front, preferably ones closer to Lennox’s age.”

I slumped in my seat as Decaurey walked through the door with Tyeis and Angel. “Perfect, son. You right on time,” Uncle WJ said.

Decaurey frowned as everyone else laughed. “Storm, Jasper, Mal, Jakari, and Christian, come on!”

Uncle Storm and Uncle Jasper frowned at the same time. “Nigga, I’m nearly fifteen years older than Nesha. Get Marcus to do it.”

“Oh shit. Thanks, Jasper. Come on, Marcus,” Uncle WJ said.

“Damn, Jasper. Just throw me under the fucking bus,” Uncle Marcus said.

Meanwhile, Uncle Storm remained seated until Nesha said, “Please, Uncle Mayor?”

He stood but kept the frown on his face. This nigga here.I swore, he loved for people to kiss his ass. “What I told you about how to address me, CEO? Secondly, get Brixton’s ass up here. You ain’t get off, nigga.”

Uncle WJ slowly shook his head as Brix stood while laughing. That laugh came to a cease when the door opened, and Nate walked through it with a huge ass gift.Oh shit. That nigga didn’t tell me he would be here today. Although he and Lennox were friends, I didn’t expect him to show up because of the situation with Jess. He went to where the gifts were and set the box on the floor then made his way to Nesha.

However, my eyes zoomed in on Jess. She was staring at the floor. When she lifted her head, her eyes went straight to Brix. Glancing over at him, I could see he was somewhat tight, but he seemed cool. Nate couldn’t be trying to start shit. He said he wouldn’t go to the private viewing simply to avoid Jess. So I couldn’t understand why he would show up here.
