“You got them dimples winking at me. That’s gon’ make me eatyoufor lunch. I love those dimples.”

“Do you now?”

“Mm hmm. I told you I love everything about you, woman. Go put some clothes on though before I take advantage and we not go anywhere.”

I smirked at him and walked away as he admired me like I was a runway model. I supposed I was…hisrunway model.

When Jakari stoppedand picked up the girls, I was in awe of him. I thought lunch would be just the two of us, but he surprised me and picked up Ashanni and Maui. We talked the entire time about reading and school. Then, of course, they had to mention how happy they were about Jakari and I being a couple and how their plan worked. We’d laughed at what they thought they were hiding and explained how we both knew what they were up to.

Jakari was in his own world, tuning us out for most of the conversation. I noticed he was on his phone a lot, but I didn’t pay it any mind. They’d had a meeting today, so I was sure he was still handling business. Maybe he brought them along to keep me company. However, if he had business to tend to, I wouldn’t have been upset if he had to cancel our outing. Although it was Sunday, I knew business didn’t stop for the type of business they ran.

We were on our way up to the hospital to see the babies. Tyeis’s babies were in the NICU, but Nesha and her son would be going home tomorrow. Ty and Decaurey’s babies were only around three pounds and seven ounces each, so I knew they would be staying in the hospital for a while. We didn’t get to see them before we left so I was anxious to see them now.

Once Jakari parked, he said, “Sorry I risked y’all’s safety by texting and driving, but the mayor is on my last nerve. He’s wearing our group thread out about what we need to be doing tomorrow. He’s up there with Decaurey, so Maui be sure to lay the charm on so that nigga can calm down.”

“What’s he saying?” Maui asked.

“How if we listened to him like Marcus does, we wouldn’t have half the problems we’re having. Just stupid shit, as usual.”

The girls chuckled. Maui said, “Hey na, Jakari. That’s still my daddy. He may be bold and aggressive, but heissmart.”

“I didn’t say he wasn’t. They are all smart, but his ass is annoying, and you know it.”

She laughed more. “Again, watch yo’ mouf though. I’m still his daughter. Don’t push that storm out of me.”

Jakari stared at her for a second and said, “Aww hell naw.”

He got out of the SUV and opened our doors. After he helped me out, he pressed his body against mine and kissed my cheek. “Don’t get carried away with those babies today unless you are truly prepared. Remember what happened earlier. If you want me to be your baby daddy, just say that shit.”

I giggled as I wrapped my arms around his waist and stared up at him. “You would be cool with that, cowboy?”

He smirked, I assumed at me calling him cowboy. He was wearing jeans, boots, a belt with a rodeo buckle, and a hat. On top of that though, he wore a T-shirt, diamond studs, and a diamond piece and chain. I didn’t know whether to say ‘howdy’ or ‘what’s up, nigga?’. I liked it though. This style was new to me since I wasn’t southern or country. It was sexy as hell.

“Cowboy, huh? Keep it up, and I’m gon’ take you back home for a bedroom rodeo.”

“Are y’all coming or nah? We can go up there by ourselves,” Ashanni said, interrupting us.

“Y’all better be glad I like y’all and that I owe y’all for introducing me to this fine ass woman.”

They laughed as my cheeks heated up. He grabbed my ass right in front of them and kissed my lips then pulled away. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were trying to incite a rodeo in this parking lot,” I said before releasing him from my grasps.

“Girl… You better quit playing before you be bowed up against this Suburban in the broad daylight.”

I laughed, but he was serious as hell. “Okay. Let’s go.”

He bit his bottom lip and nodded repeatedly as he grabbed my hand. “Good, ’cause I don’t want nobody seeing what belongs to me now. I’m a selfish muthafucka when it comes to my cake, Yendi. I hope you can deal with that.”

“Mm. I can more than deal with that. I’m one in the same. All of you belongs to me too. So you only diving in one lake.”

“Shiiiid, I’m deep-sea diving in an ocean. Don’t undermine that gripper. That’s a fucking maneater between your legs, girl,” he said in a low voice near my ear.

Maui turned to look at us with her face scrunched up like something stank. “Are y’all being nasty?”

“We’re being grown. Stay in a child’s place, lil girl,” Jakari said.

She rolled her eyes and stopped to push him. “If this is your way of paying us what you owe us, I’m not feeling it one bit.”
