As she pulled away, she kissed my cheek then wiped the lipstick off. I smiled at her and said, “I’m so glad to be back.”

“And I’m beyond ecstatic to have you back. That means that my son has gotten better mentally and realized that he can’t live happily without you. You are an important piece in his puzzle, and I truly believe that he will be blessed abundantly simply because of you.”

The tears I was so desperately trying to hold back fell down my cheeks.Jesus Christ. This was definitely where I was supposed to be. My doubts about Jakari had dissipated in a matter of minutes and now his mother was giving me the confirmation that I’d made the right decision by accepting him back into my life.

“Don’t cry, baby.” She put her hands to my cheeks. “Jakari doesn’t enter into anything without strong conviction. That includes relationships. I haven’t seen him with a girlfriend in a long time, but I am absolutely sure that you will be his last. God has ordained this, and I feel like you need him just as much as he needs you.”

“Thank you, Mama Chrissy.”

She smiled as her eyes watered and kissed my forehead. “Chrissy, why you got my niece over here crying and shit? Niece Yen, she hurt yo’ feelings? Does the Perfect Storm need to make an appearance?”

I smiled and chuckled. It was obvious it was Uncle Mayor without me even turning to see him. He was just the distraction I needed. “No. She was speaking life into me and confirming some things for me. She don’t need or deserve that kind of action, Mayor.”

He smirked and slid his arm around me then pulled me away from her, bringing me off to the side away from everyone. “I’m glad Jakari came to his senses. He clowns around a lot, but I could tell he wasn’t happy. He made seeing after Chrissy and his brothers his responsibility, but he put his life on hold. He needed to be free, and you were the one to free him. Real shit.”

“Thank you. He’s been that for me too.”

Jakari walked up and grabbed me by the hand, pulling me away from Storm. I laughed as he frowned. “Jakari don’t get fucked up. I’ll set Gabriel to the side real quick and become an angel of war on your ass.”

“I’m Michael, so back the hell up,” Uncle Jasper said.

I wasn’t sure what the whole angel references were about, but they started going at each other as Jakari pulled me away from them. “You sure you want to be a part of this bullshit all the time?”

I chuckled as I slid my hands over his beard and pulled his face to mine, kissing his lips. “Absolutely. I love them already.”

“I can tell. They love you too. But the real kicker… I love you more.”

I smiled big. “I love you too, Jakari.”

“I need more time with you tonight. Are you really serious about moving? That’s like two months away.”

“I am, unless you can convince me to stay. Then me losing my deposit will be worth it.”

“I might as well give you that deposit money back then. You ain’t going no fucking where. The only place you moving to is my house in Henderson Village. So either you can call them now or later, but the outcome will remain the same. No point in stalling. It’s inevitable. Besides, after you forced me to fill you with love, you might be pregnant.”

“Forced you?” I chuckled as my eyebrows lifted. “How in God’s name did I force you?”

“Girl, that wasn’t in God’s name. Don’t be putting that shit on Him. That was that satanic suction… them Lucifer lips… that demonic depth… that devilish drip…”

“Jakari!” I yelled with laughter. “I get the point, nigga! That damned demon dick played a huge role too!”

I covered my mouth, realizing how loud I was. My face heated up as he laughed. “Don’t be embarrassed now. Let everybody know how I fuck up them insides up, girl.”

I slapped his chest as he pulled me to him, glancing at Uncle Mayor as he stared at us with his lip turned up. “I’m so happy you’re back in my life, Yendi. Call and get your deposit back. Tell them you found a better opportunity in Big City Nome, Texas that you can’t fucking pass up on your best day.”

“Is that right? Cocky ass.”

“I might be cocky, but ain’t that shit true?”

I bit my bottom lip, then gently sucked his bottom lip between mine. “Hell yeah,” I said after releasing him. “I’ll call Monday, but what about my mama knowing where I live?”

“See, you ain’t listening to me. You live in Sour Lake right now. I said to tell them you found a better opportunity in Big City Nome, Texas. Yo’ mama don’t know shit about Hendersonville. Even if she did, she gon’ have to go through an army of muthafuckas before she can get to you. Yendi, at the end of the semester, move in with me. For real. You can move now, but I know you’ll be more comfortable with that by the end of the semester.”

“My lease is up then.”

“Fuck that lease. You know who I am, girl? I help run a nationally known company, supplying these people with rice, roux, rice dressing mix, grass, and rodeo steers. Who gon’ check me, girl? My grandpa own the company. My uncle is the CEO. My other uncle is the fucking mayor. They betta act they know who they dealing with. You saying you’ll move in now?”

“I’m saying I hope you don’t make me regret this.”
