“Yes. I told you I was clingy too. After this weekend, I don’t want to be without you if I don’t have to be. I don’t have any studio sessions until next Monday. Let me come and take care of you.”

“Shiiiid. My kind of woman. I appreciate you, baby, but I totally understand you going to be with TAZ and Noah. We’re still new, and?—”

She put her fingers to my lips. “We’re new but so serious. I need to be here for you. I will make sure my mama gets to where they are, and I will see them when you do… Wednesday.” She kissed my head. “Now stop talking for a little bit. We’ll talk more when we get in bed, and I hold you in my arms.”

“You gon’ spoil me.”

“Gladly, Nate. Gladly.”

CHAPTER 10

KENYA

Iheld Nate literally all night. He was still laying on my chest with his arms wrapped around me. Even in this position, I’d slept soundly. I’d helped him shower, and that shit was hard as hell. I wanted to take advantage of him so bad. His dick was hard and ready for me. The nigga even had the audacity to ask for it, knowing that all activities were a no-go for a couple of days.

He squirmed some, then I felt his lashes flutter against my chest. The man had lashes that I would kill for. It never failed. Men mostly always had long lashes. They didn’t need that shit. Such a waste. Now, here I was, wishing mine were longer. He slowly lifted his head and stared at me. “Good morning, sweetheart. How are you feeling?”

He gave me a soft smile. “I feel okay, baby. I just need some Ibuprofen for this headache.”

“No, baby. You need Tylenol. Ibuprofen can cause your brain to bleed with a concussion.”

“Tylenol usually doesn’t work for me though.”

“They didn’t give you anything stronger?”

“Just Tylenol Three. That shit like eating candy.”

“I’m sorry, Nate, but no Advil, Motrin, or Ibuprofen. That could put you out indefinitely. One thing I know you love as much as love itself is basketball. I can’t have you risking what you love, baby.”

“Okay. I have to see a doctor before we leave Houston too. They sent my scan to him this morning. His office is expecting it, although today is Sunday.”

He stood from the bed, and I quickly stood behind him, putting my hands at his waist to be sure he had his balance. “How do you feel now?”

“I’m good, baby. Just hungry as hell.”

“Okay. Well, let’s handle our hygiene so we can get you packed and ready for our flight.”

“What time is it?”

“Five. We have two hours. I’m gonna order breakfast after I brush my teeth. Any special requests?”

“I like omelets. I’m good with all vegetables and meat. I’ll take French toast or pancakes, whichever it comes with.”

“Got it.”

I went to the phone and placed an order for room service as he used the bathroom then brushed his teeth. Thankfully, I was able to get a ticket for the flight he was on to Houston. I supposed, being that it was after spring break and before summer, the flights weren’t full. I couldn’t get a seat next to him, but I wouldn’t be far. Maybe someone would switch seats with me. The team was flying to Toronto for a game there. They’d left late last night.

I was sure that not being with the team would start to bother Nate, so I was glad that I made the decision to be with him instead of going to Baltimore. After I placed our order, I sent a text message to my sister. Although it was still early, I knew she would see it whenever she woke up.

Hey, Taryn. I decided to stay with Nate after his injury last night. We will both be there Wednesday evening, I believe. Let me know when the services will be. Also, let me know if there is anything you need me to do before then. I can imagine your hands are full. I know Noah is probably taking this extremely hard.

Before I could set my phone down, I saw the bubbles appear, indicating she was responding. As she did, I could hear Nate’s phone going off. I was more than sure his mother was worried. He didn’t talk to anyone last night as far as I knew. He wasn’t even supposed to look at his phone for two days. I’d have to be sure to make the calls he needed me to make and respond to the messages he needed me to respond to.

My phone chimed, indicating Taryn had responded.Hey, sis. Thank God you’re staying with him. How is he? Raqui had said they probably banned him from staring at screens for a couple of days. Noah is handling it better than I thought he would. He has his moments though.

He’s okay. Just a nagging headache. I’m sure I’ll be making calls and text messages for him later. I love y’all. Our flight leaves in three hours, so I’ll text you when we land in Houston. Love you.

After responding, I set my phone down, and Nate came out of the bathroom. I smiled at him and stood to go brush my teeth. He wrapped his arm around me and kissed my head. “Okay, go relax, baby. The food will be here in about fifteen more minutes. I’m going to brush my teeth so I can kiss your lips.”
