“A’ight.”

He went to the bed, and I went to brush my teeth. When I heard him talking, I rolled my eyes. He had to have looked at that phone for him to be talking. I slowly shook my head as I heard him say, “I’m okay, Ma. I know.”

She’d left after the concert because she had to work yesterday. She had taken time off for it and had planned to make a few of his future games. I didn’t understand why she still worked with as much money as Nate made, but I supposed I sort of understood. His money wasn’t necessarily her money. Taryn had said that Noah’s mom was a pharmacist and had continued to work long after Noah blew up.

When I left the bathroom, I stood in the doorway and stared at him with a slight frown on my face. He sat up in bed. “I know. My mama was calling, and I needed to assure her that I was okay. It won’t happen again.”

I twisted my lips to the side as he chuckled. He extended his phone to me. “You hold on to it. The passcode is zero three one eight two zero zero seven. That was the day I found out David Guillory was my father.”

My eyebrows lifted as I approached him and took the phone from him. “You’re giving me your passcode?”

He pulled me to him, wrapped his arms around my waist, and rested his head on my chest. “I ain’t got shit to hide. My phone dry as fuck.”

I glanced at the screen, and my eyebrows lifted even more. “Umm, I don’t call nearly a thousand unopened text messages dry, Nate.”

“It’s dry when those messages ain’t from people I wanna hear from. You can delete all that shit. I ain’t gon’ ever read it.”

“Well, you just suffered an injury. Some of these messages could be from people you care about that are checking on you.”

“Yeah, you right. We’ll go through them later, if you don’t mind.”

“I don’t mind. I’m here to help you with whatever you may need.”

“What if I need you how I had you yesterday morning?”

I pulled away from him. “Not today. Maybe tomorrow. You need rest and water the most right now.”

Before he could respond, there was a knock at the door. “Room service!”

I smiled at him as I pulled away. He stood and followed me to the door. “Just in case you need help with the tray.”

“I’ll make two trips, Nate. You shouldn’t be lifting anything either.”

“Lawd, woman. You acting like I’m on the verge of being a paraplegic.”

I giggled as I opened the door. He rested his hand at my waist and a camera flashed. “Shit!” he yelled.

I was sure the flash hurt his eyes. I frowned at the worker with the tray. “How could you let this happen? How did they even get access to this floor?”

He quickly gave me the tray and took off without answering my question. After making sure the door closed, I brought the tray to the table in the room and went to see about Nate. “Baby, you okay? I’m gonna call and file a complaint. The delivery guy, José, clearly allowed that person access to us.”

“I’m okay. That flash just ignited my headache again though.”

“Okay. Come to the table so you can eat.”

I helped him up and held his hand as he made his way to the table. After setting his omelet and pancakes, picante sauce, and syrup in front of him, along with his orange juice, I grabbed my phone to place a call to the front desk. Before I could, I received a text message from Taryn.Umm… you and Nate are trending.

I frowned and immediately went to my web browser without responding to her. I typed in Nate Guillory, and the first thing that came up was a picture of me standing in a chair outside of his locker room, kissing his lips. I rolled my eyes and said, “I know you can’t have screentime, but we’re trending.”

I could see his eyes widen in my peripheral as I scrolled the article. They knew who I was, which was strange in itself. I usually stayed under the radar. My name was listed and my affiliation to TAZ. I supposed since I’d been singing background for Noah and TAZ, all that shit went out the window. The article was speculating about a budding romance and had even brought up Jessica Monroe as being a past love interest of Nate’s.

“Well, I mean, I knew it would happen when the picture was taken at the arena. Is that the one online?”

“Yeah.”

“What’s up? You feel a way about it?”

“No. I just don’t like people in my business, especially people I don’t know.”
