“Shiiiid, I ain’t hatin’. Nigga, I’m in awe. I had too much shit going on in my life to move that damn fast. But hey, you like it, I love it. You definitely gotta be kin to Noah. That nigga move fast as hell too.”

Noah rolled his eyes. “Grandpa used to stay on my ass about that shit too. One time, when I was a teenager, he asked if I was having sex. When I told him no, he was like, and you still wanna move that fast?”

“Grandpa couldn’t understand your speed if you hadn’t sampled the goods yet,” RJ said, then laughed.

I slid my hand over my face. I’d definitely sampled the goods… a few times now. After my mama left that night, I stayed putting my hands in places they shouldn’t have been, begging for a taste. She finally gave in about midnight. I felt totally fine, but I didn’t know how I would feel with extremely strenuous activity.

The first night, Kenya rode me the whole time. I wasn’t in the least bit complaining. The way she bounced on my dick had my toes curling and my eyes rolling to the back of my head, feeling like a whole bitch. The woman had skills. She said that she hadn’t slept with her ex in an entire month. From that admission alone, she should have known he was sleeping with someone else. Her pussy was way too good to ignore.

I told her that she was extremely trusting, but she told me that she refused to check after a grown ass man. If he was fucking up, it would come to light sooner or later. She refused to stress herself out, worrying over a man that should know what he wanted. She also quoted her favorite lines.I’m almost forty years old. I’m too old for that bullshit. When she said it, I rolled my eyes. We had only been together a few days, and I’d heard it more times than I could count.

Monday and yesterday, I’d fucked her every way known to man, all over my house—against the wall, in the shower, on the dinner table, and on the stairs. I even slid into her while she was taking cornbread from the oven. I couldn’t get enough. Her screams of passion were sexy as fuck. That alone had me busting prematurely. If we weren’t sleeping or eating, my dick was in her walls, wanting to repaint them every chance I got.

My mama had come over to see about me Tuesday evening and almost got an eyeful. Had I not looked up at the monitor to see her coming in, she would have seen me pinning Kenya against the laundry room door, wearing her pussy out. I didn’t know why she used her key when she knew I had company. Before I could address it, she apologized, saying she forgot.

That talk was going to have to come sooner rather than later, because she barely said two words to Kenya the entire hour she was there. She didn’t have a problem talking to Kenya when we were in Baltimore. It was just now that she saw how serious we were, she wanted to be on guard for bullshit. Had I not gotten injured, Kenya wouldn’t have been at my place. We were moving fast as hell, like RJ had said, but I couldn’t help it with a woman like her… my cougar.

I chuckled at the thought as RJ stared at me and slowly shook his head. “She done put that shit on his ass. Look at him. Nigga sprung already. Noah, you know a lil something about that, right? Sonya had you chasing her ass for ten years.”

He laughed as Noah side-eyed him. “J, shut the fuck up. You try to play hard, but you know Jazzy got that ass on lock.”

“Hell yeah, she do. Shorty make me better all the way around. That shit didn’t happen that fast though. Look at me now though. I got three successful branches of JC Architectural Firm. I mean, I’m a smart nigga, but shorty add to it. You got me off topic though. We ain’t talking about me. We talking about lover boy over there. So, I have a question, Nate. This serious.”

I sat up in my seat, waiting for what he would ask. He’d wiped the smile right off my face when he got serious. “How are your feelings for Jessica? Don’t be entering into something serious with Kenya if you still hung up on her.”

I nodded repeatedly. “I still have feelings for her. I may even still love her, but I’m doing good getting her out of my system. I blocked her on social media. I don’t go to her page. She messaged me to see if I was okay. I let Kenya read it and had her reply to Jakari instead. I haven’t replied to Jess. I deleted our thread.”

“Just be sure, man. RJ is right. Although I was with Jah, I found myself comparing her to Sonya whenever we would have a disagreement. While I know my history with Sonya was way more extensive than your history with Jess, I still feel like you were in way too deep with her. Don’t try to replace what you feel for her with Kenya. Let it be something new and totally different. You get what I’m saying?” Noah asked.

“Yeah, I do. I’m thinking about distancing myself from Jakari a bit, too, for right now. That’s my boy, and we’ve gotten close, but whenever I talk to him, I think about her. He only brings her up occasionally, like when she had her baby. Other than that, we don’t talk about her. He respects the fact that I’m moving on and even encouraged it, but he’s her cousin.”

Noah and RJ both nodded. I assumed that meant they agreed with my reasoning. We remained quiet for a moment until I heard Raqui say, “Uh oh. They’re quiet. Something must have happened.”

Kenya and TAZ both made their way into the room with us as Noah chuckled. When TAZ sat on his lap, he wrapped his arms around her. “Nothing happened, baby. Something thought provoking was said, so we all were thinking about it.”

Kenya sat on my lap as well and kissed my lips. “You okay? You need anything, Nate?”

“There’s only one thing I need, and I know I’ll get that later tonight.”

“Not if y’all staying here, you ain’t,” Noah said as TAZ nudged him.

“Oh, in case you didn’t know, Noah is the designated hater around these parts,” RJ added with a chuckle.

I slowly shook my head. These niggas around here were nosy as hell. Kenya’s cheeks were red, so I kissed her and said, “I’m sorry if I embarrassed you.”

“The last thing I am is embarrassed. Let’s go to Noah and Taryn’s room.”

“Like hell!” Noah yelled.

We all burst into laughter, then I wrapped my arms around Kenya. It was good to know that she had a sense of humor. She would have to around us, especially RJ’s ass. Noah and RJ would have to suffice as my go-tos when I needed advice, especially relationship advice. I needed a solid brotherhood, one that would help me on my journey with Kenya. I wanted to be everything she needed and more. While I knew I would make mistakes or bad decisions, I also knew that my brothers would help me overcome them.

CHAPTER 12

KENYA

The funeral was a beautiful celebration of Phillip Brooks’s life. Noah and his mother had wonderful things to say about him, along with Noah’s father, Reverend Ryan Charles. RJ had shocked everyone when he went to the mic to talk. While it was a celebration, it was still emotionally charged until RJ got up there talking about their grandpa. He had everyone laughing so much they could barely breathe, saying that their grandpa was a gangsta.

Leaving Nate was the hardest part. The funeral was on Friday, and we both left Sunday morning. I’d been with him a week, and I had already gotten used to being cuddled under him. Although he was younger than me, the man was perfect. He was so mature for his age. There wasn’t a moment where I could see the age difference or that he was being immature. We got along perfectly.
