“No, I got a place. Not why I was calling. I figured since I was near a phone, I could ask how the delivery went? If the guy was happy with our trade?”

“He was. In fact, he wants to make another. The same stuff, in addition to some leaves. I have the list here if you want to meet up tomorrow?”

“Sure. I'll be at the base hotel. Not sure which room yet but I'll call you from there.”

“Sounds good. I'm glad you have somewhere to go tonight.”

“Me too. Talk soon.”

I hung up and placed the phone where Portia told me to, then went back to the computer. A message waited for me.

Dr.redhead: Everything's been taken care of at the hotel. Just give them your name and you'll be good to go.

Me: Thanks. I'll check in a little later.

Dr.redhead: Not ready to say goodbye, huh?

Me: Do you have something you need to be doing instead?

Dr.redhead: Not really. My friend's giving me a ride home and then I’ll probably order in for dinner, but that's it.

Me: What's ordering in?

The library was empty, aside from me and the librarian.

Dr.redhead: Where you order food from a restaurant and they deliver it.

Me: I've never been to a restaurant.

Dr.redhead: Really? Go ahead and order room service at the hotel and put it on my card. I’ve heard the food at the restaurant there is pretty good. Then you'll have food from a restaurant, and the experience of ordering in.

Me: You've already done too much as it is.

Dr.redhead: It's not a big deal. They have computers there too, so you can eat and then tell me how it was. I like being a part of your first-time experiences.

Me: Me too. Too bad you can't be doing it with me in person.

Dr.redhead: Maybe someday. Go get checked in and eat. I'm guessing it's been a while since you had food today.

He was right. I was used to not eating much so I didn't even think about it. Based on what I'd seen, humans ate a lot. I’d tried to snack all day like Portia once and wound up with a stomach ache. She’d been sitting at her desk eating a pack of peanuts. That’s what she’d called them last time I asked her what they were.

Me: Not since early daylight.

Dr.redhead: That's not good. Order as much food as you want. And if you don't know what to get, the safe bets are chicken tenders or a cheeseburger with fries.

Me: Thanks. I'll speak to you soon.

I stood up almost too fast after closing the website, my head feeling woozy.

Yeah, maybe food will help.

“Seems like a lot of trouble if you ask me,” Portia said from behind me, shoving her glasses up her nose.

“What does?”

“Risking coming here every day for some guy.”

“I'm not.” I tugged on my sleeve. I had to remember to wear shirts when walking into the library. What a silly rule it was too.
