“That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said about my voice before.”

“And the things you say are the nicest things anyone has ever told me, period. It's why I like talking to you so much.”

“Aww. I like talking to you too, Nova. You haven't answered my question yet though?”

I sat down on the bed, trying to remember what he’d asked me.Oh yeah. If I'd eaten.

“I did. I ordered what you suggested.”

“Both things?” He gasped a little on the last word.

“Yeah. I loved them both. I really want to try pizza next,” I said, twirling the phone cord around my finger. “People on TV are always eating it.” I flipped to another movie.

“What are you watching now?”

“Miss Congeniality. I haven't seen this one yet.”

“I can't remember if I have either. I don't watch many movies.”

“What?” I was the one gasping that time.

“It's not that I don't like them. I'm usually just too busy working or sleeping.”

“What's a bubble bath?” I asked randomly, after hearing one of the pageant contestants mention they enjoyed taking them.

“Huh?” he asked, sounding caught off guard.

“This woman in here likes bubble baths and long walks.”

“Uh . . . it's like this white foamy stuff. It doesn't start that way when you pour it into the bathtub but gets like that the more the water runs over it.”

“White foam?”

“Yeah, and it's bubbly.”

“I don't know what any of that means.”

He released a drawn-out sigh. “I'm not very good at explaining things, sorry.”

“It's okay. What are you doing?”

“Just at home.” He yawned. “I ate Thai food and took a quick shower earlier. Now I'm lying in bed, talking to you.”

“Do you wear clothes to sleep?”

“Wh-at?”

“I hate clothes when I sleep. I hate clothes when I'm awake too. You humans love them though.”

He laughed. “We do, and I sleep in pajama pants usually.”

“Pajama pants?” I asked.

“Yeah, sleeping clothes. There are nightgowns, and two-piece pajama sets. Some come with shorts or pants.”

“Yeah, not sure I'd like any of those. Maybe I'd wear something thin and flowy.”

“A nightgown then, perhaps? They are kind of like dresses. There are so many kinds. Soft, thin, thick, and different lengths.”
