“That's not how this is going to work. I don't have time for your little tricks or games tonight.”

“Don't do it,” someone shouts in the background.

Henry shushed him before talking again. “Pay no attention to your friend if you want him to remain alive. Don't think I won't go after Nova next.”

“No, please. I'll go to the police station now.”

“Good. As soon as I get word you're there, I'll let Edgar go.”

“Why are you doing this?”

He scoffed. “Our worlds were never meant to mix together. Soon no human will be allowed to come on base and then that means no more of you in our world messing everything up.”

“You're killing innocent people.”

He laughed and it was wicked. “Humans are anything but innocent. You have twenty minutes to get to the station.” He hung up.

“You cant.” Nova tugged at my arm as I walked toward the portal.

“I have to, baby.” I kissed his nose. “We would've never met if it wasn't for Edgar's crazy ass. I have to help him. He's my best friend. My only other family aside from you.”

He frowned and I pulled on his bottom lip. “I'll find my way back to you. I promise.”

“Okay.” He kissed me long and hard before finally letting me go.

I fell into the closet and when I opened the door, the guard who waved me through the portal the last time I visited the monster world, was standing in front of my bed wearing a curious expression.

“Were you in there this whole time?”

“Yes.” I swallowed hard.

He titled his head. “Are you sure? Because I checked there and didn't see you before. Almost like you appeared out of thin air. What are you hiding?” He smiled wide. “Maybe I should check it out again. Feel along the wall.”

“What do you want? Why are you here?”

“I'm here for you.” He pulled out a knife from his back pocket.

“You're the person helping Henry.”

He laughed. “You really are as smart as they say. Come with me quietly and I won't reach into the closet.”

“I thought I was supposed to turn myself in.”

“Nah. They tested your little plants. They had no traces of poison and your little friends have been sticking their nose where they don't belong. I think it's best we get rid of you and Edgar all together. Then we can say you both fled into the monster world through your little magical closet.”

“No. I'm not going anywhere with you.” I stepped back and he came closer.

“Then I'll just have to kill you here.” He grabbed me by the neck and I kneed him in the groin. I got tugged with him to the ground and we wrestled until he ended on top of me, pressing the tip of his knife to my chin.

“No,” someone shouted behind us, slamming a trashcan into the man's head. Nova kept hitting him until the man dropped the knife. He quickly grabbed the knife as the man crawled to it and stabbed him in the hand. Screams filled my room.

“Nova, stop.”

He lifted the knife in the air. The bottom half was covered in blood. “He was going to kill you Franky. He wants to kill Edgar. And he knows the portal is here. He'll tell Henry and they'll cause more trouble than they already have. I can't leave him breathing.” Nova's eyes had something dark and twisted in them. This is what he meant by another side takes over when it has to. He's right though. This man is a killer. What's so wrong with one less of him in the world?

“Okay.” I looked away, covering my ears waiting for screams to come but there weren't any. Only a large body being dragged into the portal. I waited for what felt like too long before walking through the closet to check on Nova. He was closing his back door, dripping in blood. “This blood is going to take forever to get out of my floor again.”

“Where did you put him?”
