“Where are we going?”

“I'm taking you home. Hopefully this will all be over soon. We can't have them catch you out here too.” He pulled the string and we got off the bus. We walked for about ten minutes before reaching his house. It was quiet and all the lights were still on when we walked inside. Franky's phone went off.

“Hello,” he said, pressing the phone to his ear.

He nodded, sighed with relief and thanked whoever was on the phone. “Yeah. I'm on my way.”

“What happened?”

“Edgar's okay. He's a little bruised and drugged, but he's okay. They're taking him to the nearest hospital and want me to meet them there for some questioning. I want you to stay here and wait for me.”

I looked around and then at my feet, nodding. “Yeah, okay.”

“I'll be back as soon as I can. Have your iPad on you in case I need to reach you.”

“I will. Hurry back to me.” I stood on my tiptoes and kissed him.

“I can't wait to hear you say that more while standing in my house.”

Happiness bubbled inside me. “Me either.”

The house became too quiet after he hurried out the door. I curled up on the couch with my iPad, waiting to hear from him. It wasn't until after watching two episodes of TheGolden Girlsthat I finally did.

Dr. redhead: I miss you.

A smile spread across my face.

Me: I miss you too.

Another hour went by before Franky was walking through the front door. “Hey, beautiful.”

“Hey. You're back. How's Edgar?”

“Doing better. He's a strong fucker,” he said half heartedly.

“And Henry?”

“He was arrested on scene. They said I was in the clear. There was enough evidence on both Henry and the guard's phone to prove neither me or Edgar had any involvement.”

“What about me?”

“When I asked, all the cop said was they no longer had any reason to believe anyone else was involved. They did more digging earlier today and had all your clients come forward about what you gave them in the trades. Between that and Henry having some plants on him, I think you're in the clear.”

I rushed forward, wrapping my arms around him. “Thank you.”

“You have nothing to thank me for. I did this partially for selfish reasons.”

“Being?”

“You and Edgar are the only people in my life and I didn't want to go through the trouble of starting all over again.”

A laugh bubbled out of me. “Where should we sleep tonight?”

“It doesn't matter to me as long as I get to wake up next to you.”

“You sure you don't see me as dangerous after today?”

“I see you as you and nothing else.”
