There was nothing I could do now but be supportive.

But man, I had no idea. Things would be this crazy already.

Chapter ten

Ronald Razor’s POV

Ihadnoideawhat to do.

Honestly, I felt more scared now than then, and I was really scared that day. When I got back home with Dr. Carl, he told me she suffered from some food issues from being back home and would take time to adjust. I didn't even know that could be an issue. It looked like her body kept making new problems with every passing year and I couldn't handle it. Dr. Carl even said with Maddy, he could not give an exact diagnosis, only a speculative one. Later, we went to the hospital for tests, about as always, they showed nothing definitive. We needed a solution fast and I didn’t want to lose my daughter. Ever since then, I'd been spiraling. That caused me to put a hold on my overview of the album. Maryam was the one more focused on that now, as she went to the office more so than I did. Sure, I still contacted Drew. Gale, and everyone involved but I did so from home. Only Drew knew the real reason, but I told everyone else I was sick. I did go to the office two days ago just to show my face and not make it seem like the sickness was dangerous.

My mind remained blank as I left my room. A couple of maids greeted me immediately on seeing me and I returned the favor.

“Do you know where my daughter is?” I asked Geneva, one of the maids.

"She's downstairs eating in the dining area.”

“All right, thanks.” I went downstairs.

My anxiety had been building up for a while now. And I needed a way to address it. Maybe I could finally talk to her. She seemed unconcerned after what happened. How could she be so calm? I was dying here.

I saw her eating but instead of disturbing her, I rested by the door and took this moment to appreciate that my daughter looked happy and relaxed. Usually, when she saw me, she became cold and distant. Not showing much positive emotion, but this time, seeing her eat her food, looking interested and happy and even smirking a little bit while pressing her phone, I smiled.

She must have sensed me because she turned around and stopped her chewing.

“Still using your phone while eating, I see.”

“Yep. What do you want, Dad?” I sat down perpendicular to her, not saying a word but staring at my daughter with intent. “You're making me uncomfortable.”

“I need to ask you something, Maddy and I need you to be honest with me.” I gave her a stern look when speaking.

“Oh, God.” She rolled her eyes.

“I'm fucking serious, Maddy!”

She instantly kept quiet, staring at me with stunned eyes. Now she knew I wasn't joking, “You almost died.”

“That's an exaggeration.”

“Do you know how many times I've gone through this? Whenever I see you like that, it breaks my heart.” I paused, looking at her. “So, I need to know if this happened in school as well.” I hadn't been able to get it out of my mind. Perhaps she suffered in silence, not wanting to tell me. I even called her campus doctor, but the woman assured me that Maddy was mostly fine. Maybe I was just being paranoid, but it is a parent's job to be paranoid for the safety of their kid.

“So, you think I'm lying?”

“Maddy, why do you think that is what I'm focused on right now? I want to help you.”

“Really? Then why are you here, accusing me like I did something wrong?”

“I just want to know if anything happened to you.”

“And I have told you, but you refuse to believe me. Nothing happened. Only a couple of times where I felt a bit light-headed. I went to the clinic, and they gave me the drugs I needed.” She already looked tired. “I even told you one time when you called, so why are you hounding me, Dad? Are you just trying to look for a fight?”

“I don't know why you have to always be like this.” Did she have to be this passive-aggressive with every reply? I hated it. “I am trying to have a conversation with my daughter because I love her, and I’m worried for her.”

“I learned from the best. Focusing on other things when what was right in front of you tried to reach out to you for years and yes, and yes, you deprived your little daughter of affection!” She wanted to have this discussion now?

I never attacked you or denied you affection. What are you talking about? Whenever I was around, I showered you with gifts.

“Of course. That's what you always fall back on, freaking gifts. And when you were around?!” She banged her hand on the table. “You were barely around. Sometimes you go for weeks… a month, and I won't see you. You'd come back later when I was already asleep. You are the…”
