Maddy and I had also gotten to a better place than before. She looked brighter these days; more smiling, less gloomy. I loved that for the girl. That being said, I told Ron to stay with his daughter. She needed him to be around in case anything happened regardless of the degree of severity. Her episodes were unpredictable. Hopefully, though, the worst was behind us.

Now, here I sit, almost home. I’d already traveled from LA today via flight and now, was on my way home through a taxi.

My eyes managed to leave my hands and look through the window to take in the city I grew up in for many years. The city has always been cold. When I came down from the airport, that feeling didn’t change. Colorado was sometimes hot, but mostly it stayed as a cold area mainly due to the altitude in some parts of Denver. The mile-high city, they called it. This came as a stark contrast to Los Angeles of course. When I first arrived in L.A., it took me a while to settle down due to the heat and the differences in other areas between the two cities. People wore more clothing here than in L.A. partly due to the weather, but also due to culture as well.

I continued looking outside while wearing glasses even when inside the taxi so that no one would notice me. Also had a hoodie on. When I came out, I would cover my lower face with a scarf. I didn't want to take any chances at being spotted considering my growing fame and the fact that people knew that I came from Colorado. I wasn’t necessarily born there but it's where I identified with the most. Eventually, I reached my home. The taxi driver helped me bring out my small luggage and I paid him and thanked him before he went on his merry way.

Before I could even turn around, I had my mom rushing to me. Gosh, does this woman ever age? I thought to myself after turning to see her. Ma had a small frame but was very athletic. She ran down the stairs like a hyena while thanking God and hugged me very tightly. I basked in her hug, letting go of my suitcase and basking in the warmth of my mom.

“Oh, my dear. I've missed you so much. Look at you! You look so beautiful,” She commented.

“Ma, you look even better. How do you stay this good? I want to be able to age as gracefully as you.” She smacked my shoulder lovingly.

“Oh, look at you being as sweet as ever.” She started walking to the door. “Come on, I prepared something very nice. You’re going to enjoy it.”

I held on to my suitcase again. I rolled it and then I saw Dad reaching the door. He waited for us to meet him as we entered the house.

“James, look! She's here. She's here!”

I rolled my eyes at how excited my mom was. Of course, he could see me here as well. She didn't need to repeat it, but I shouldn’t be surprised.

“Yes, my love. I can see her.” Dad and I hugged, and I basked in the moment.

“How are you, sweetie?” Dad asked.

“I'm good, Dad.”

“You came here to see us in person. I hope everything is alright?” He questioned. For my dad to be saying this means they had already suspected that I came to tell them something important. I did need to tell them about my relationship, but I also just missed my parents and wanted to come and see them.

“Everything is fine. I don't need a reason to come see you and spend some quality time with the two of you.” I tried to deflect. He nodded but I could tell from the look on his face that he was not convinced.

“Come on in, Baby. Come on, come on, come on. You need to be filled.”

“You realize as a performer right now. I need to watch my weight and-”

“No, no. Don't give me any of that nonsense.” She caught me off and dragged me to the living room. “What do you think?”

To be honest, I wasn't sure what I was supposed to say. It looked the same which didn't surprise me because my parents weren't big on change. “It looks great as always, Ma,” I said, closing my eyes and taking a moment to breathe in that homely feel. This still smelled like where I grew up. I could remember myself playing with toys right there on the carpet, doing singing lessons with my Ma and Dad listening. When I had my first fight and got into trouble with the principal at school, I received a scolding from Ma while sitting on that sofa. All these memories flooded into my mind but made me appreciate having my parents here with me to see my success.

“I missed you, Dad, Ma,” I said, turning to them and giving them a warm embrace.

“We missed you too, Honey,” Ma replied. She went and brought pancakes with jam, which I loved, and I went to keep my things in my room. I squealed in excitement at the sight of it. While eating together, we reminisced about a lot of our folks here. As always, Ma had all the gist, telling me different stories from our neighbors cutting her hair to my old teacher, Mr Dolt getting a cute but incredibly small new car. The latter piqued my curiosity. Boy, I’d love to see how small.

“So, Honey, it's your turn. Everything.” Ma tapped the table while looking with expectation. She wanted even more gossip. In my case, however, it was only gossip and just information about how things were going at the office. Well, to Ma, it's pretty much gossip.

“You should just let her rest, she returned just an hour ago.” Thankfully, Dad came to my rescue.

Ma scoffed, pouting. “Sure. We'll talk later at night.”

The time already read after 6:00. I wanted to call Ron and tell him that I had arrived, but my parents didn’t give me any space for that. Additionally, my phone was in my room because my parents hated me checking it when we were having our living room or dining time.

“Okay, Ma, Dad. I need to get some rest. I'll come back to you guys, and we’ll talk to our hearts desire this night.”

“Good,” Dad said, glancing at Ma with a knowing look.

“What was that?” I quickly called them.

They looked at me with suspicious faces. "Maybe you’ll finally. Tell us why you came home.” Ma repeated the same concern Dad had when I entered the house.
