Shit, these people could predict me so well, I thought to myself. How did they do it? Anyway, that was irrelevant. Right now, resting should be the primary thing on my mind.

“I know.” Quickly, I exited the room and went to my room. I closed the door and checked my phone.

To no one's surprise, Ron called me three times from when I dropped my phone in my room till now. He must have been worried that I hadn’t called him when I got close to the house. I took the phone and tapped his number. At the second ring, Ron picked it up. “Hey, is everything okay? You've arrived, right?”

“Yes. Sorry, I couldn't call. My parents are very overbearing.”

“That's cute,” he said and I smiled. I loved how understanding he was.

“So, I plan to tell them tonight. They already knew something was up.”

“Damn. Well, they are your parents, after all,” Ron noted, and I chimed in agreement. “Call me after it happens, good or bad. I’ll always stand by you.” That gave me courage. I smiled.

“Thanks, my love. And how’s Maddy?”

“She's watching some movies in her room. Things are fine between us.” A part of me was scared that if I left, something bad might happen and they could get at loggerheads again. Hence, I felt happy to hear that hadn't happened. It won't happen. I affirmed to myself.

“Okay, that's good.” My eyes had started getting heavy, dragging their lids down while I fought for control. “I need to sleep now. Pretty jet-lagged from the travel.”

“Yeah, yeah, sure. Just take care of yourself, okay? I love you.”

Having his bold voice saying that to me with such confidence and assurance made me staunch in my stance that this would be the man for me. I would not step down. I'd dig my foot deeper into the soil like tree roots, not letting the world take me away from the love I shared with Ronald Razor.

“I love you, too,” I responded, giggling. When I said it to him, it came off from every fiber of my being, and, in a sense, I felt shy because I’d never felt all of myself being attached to someone at this level. It scared me a bit to have my day, my emotions, and my life be so easily affected by the actions and words of another.

But I guess that's what love is. It becomes about the other person and how they affect you… and how you trust them to affect you in a positive light.

I immediately went to sleep due to being so tired. A couple of hours later, a knock on my door woke me up.

“Sweetie, food is ready. It has been ready for a while now but I wanted you to get some rest. The time is already 11:00? You wanted us to talk.” Ma informed from the other side of the door. I groaned in dissatisfaction. Just a few hours in my old bed and I felt so at home. I didn't want to get up. I spent so many hours on this bed that one lie on it was what it took to make me unable to get up.

“Up, up, up!” Ma pressed, knocking on the door harder.

These people.

Grudgingly, I got up and washed my face, wearing a shirt before coming outside.

“Oh, good. You're up and running,” Ma said as she walked past me in the hallway. Our house had one small hallway-like area from which you could corner the kitchen, living room, and other rooms.

“Go to the dining. We’ll eat there.”

“All right, Ma.” I did as she asked, and we sat down at the dining table, savoring this moment that the three of us had to spend together as we used to many years ago. Family is so important, and I was grateful for mine. So grateful.

“All right,” Ma finally looked ready.

“What?” I feared what I anticipated.

“Time for the talk. Do you want to have that here or in the Living Room?”

I sighed with a smile. "Let's go to the Living Room.”

“Okay, honey,” Dad responded calmly, still scrutinizing my face intensely. We got to the Living Room and sat down. My hands began to shake.

“There's something I need to tell you.”

“We know,” They collectively replied.

“I don't want you to freak out.”
