"What the hell, man?" I protested as he practically dragged me to my office.

"No. I should be the one saying that to you. What the hell is wrong with you?" Drew retorted.

"Huh?" I crumpled my face. What he said made no sense. Why did he look upset with me?

"You need to stop this thing with Maryam." The tension became palpable. He knew. How the heck did he know? I asked myself. By now, we got to my office. He sat down first, as my chair sat deeper in the room.

"What?" I spoke after sitting down. Time to continue a conversation I dreaded.

"I know you don't like her, but this has to stop. The way you awkwardly answered when I asked you about the song; that was a layup to praise her."

Thank God. He didn't know, he just assumed I still wasn't happy about her joining the team.

“I told her it was good.” Drew gave me a look that made me know I needed to respond better.

“Come on, man. What is happening?” Drew pressed, frowning at me. “I'm losing my mind over here. The two of you act so weird when you’re around one another.” Drew looked visibly frustrated while explaining. “And you were the one that wanted her in the company. If you hated her that much, we could have just signed someone else.” I was visibly vexed when he mentioned Maryam possibly leaving, but I couldn’t blame him because he’d gotten worn out from the relationship between us. Drew had no idea how much I loved Maryam.

“I'm not leaving until you explain to me. What is your problem with her Maryam? She’s a nice girl that works hard and it's beloved by a lot of the staff.”

“I don't hate her, Drew.”

“Then what’s the problem?”

I took a deep breath. I guessed this would be the moment Drew deserved to know. He was the most trustworthy person in the company. I’d worked with him for so many years, so I knew Drew had my best interest at heart. He’d even sacrificed himself once to save my behind. Nothing serious, but still, I appreciated it.

“We’re together.”

Drew squinted his eyes while staring at me. He thought for a sec then I said, "Like… together together.” In a flash, his eyes went from being small to almost falling out of their sockets.

“Wait, what?” His reaction felt almost comical and caused me to laugh a bit. ”Are you fucking kidding me?”

“No, and keep your voice down.” I glanced at the workers who seemed to be minding their business. Nobody heard, though since they were too far, and my door was closed.

“You guys are together like fucking.” It seemed as if Drew still couldn’t believe it.

“Don't say it like that. I love her. Seriously.”

“What the fuck?” He remained in disbelief. “So, it's the opposite of what I thought.”

“Yes, and I'm serious about this girl, Drew. No Cap. No fling. She is the real deal.”

“When you say real deal, you mean…”

“Yes, I know. All the way,” I said while giving him a knowing look. Drew was shocked, but he also smiled.

“Wow. So, you could marry this girl. I've never heard you say that before.”

“Exactly.”

“But man, you've dropped the Tsar Bomb of issues on my lap because if this goes public before…”

“I know, I know. I'm telling you because I trust you.”

“Fuck. It's gonna be hard as hell, man. But you guys have to get way better at handling things in the office. The two of you knew what you were signing up for, so we can't keep having any of this awkwardness, okay?” I appreciated how understanding Drew was considering the situation. That didn't surprise me, though. He always had a chill attitude to him, meaning he could work well with a lot of people and understand different perspectives.

“Sure, we'll get better at it.”

“You seriously love this girl? How long have you known her?”
