"All right, that's good. Have you eaten?" After asking that question, we reached a junction, and I noticed a car had been parked there. It had tinted glass, just like mine. Why would a car park in a place like this? This was a T-Junction. It could be an accident waiting to happen, I thought in my head.

"A little. I didn't eat much 'cos I wasn't feeling too well, but I'll try to eat again before you come back. I know you're going to make a big deal out of it and stuff me with food until I'm as fat as a minion."

"What's that?"

Maryam groaned. "Like a snowman."

"Ah," Now I got the joke and chuckled. I noticed that the same car had turned on its engine while we waited for our light to turn green. "Okay, sweetie. I'll come and check on you. I left work early today. Maybe we could hang around, watch a movie or something."

"That would be nice."

"What the hell?!" I heard my driver say and quickly looked up.

"What the fuck?! Move! Move!!" I shouted at them. The car ran right into us without any care for whomever it hit or the safety of the drivers inside it.

I felt a sharp pain in different parts of my body, and everything went black.

Maryam Carey's POV

"Madam, you don't need to do all this." Sarah, one of the maids in the house, tried to dissuade me from making the meal.

I was a good cook, so I figured why not help now and then? Besides, since I decided to stay at home with Maddy today after finding out she didn't feel too well, I didn't have much to do but work. I'd already cleaned my room, even going to clean Ron's room where we sleep, only to see the maids had already gotten to that. Now, I wanted to cook or at least learn from them. They might not be here all the time, and if that happened, I would like to be able to cook for myself, Ron, and Maddy.

"I told you, it's fine," I responded with a smile. 'I want to do this and keep myself busy until Ron gets back."

I probably shouldn't have told Ron of Maddy's little cold. Seeing her, I knew it wasn't anything serious, but Ron got very antsy when it came to Maddy, so I understood that he would react eccentrically. He didn't need to know. Anyway, what's done is done. I wanted to prepare something that he could enjoy when he got back.

"Maryam! Maryam!!" I heard someone beckon to me. From the sound of a voice, it was Maddy. Quickly, I left the dough I'd been kneading and rushed from the kitchen, but as I reached the door, she entered the kitchen. Her expression told me all I needed to know.

"What's the matter?"

"I think something happened to Dad."

"Wait, what?" I got confused.

"He called me to check on me, and while we were talking, I heard some commotion and a loud bang. I'm not quite sure what I heard, honestly," she explained, still looking quite shaken. "I tried calling him after, but they said the phone is switched off."

"Ron should still be at work now."

"No, he was already coming back home after you called him."

Oh, God. I felt a shiver. Prickles of fear ran down my body. Why did I even tell him Maddy was sick? Nevertheless, now wasn't the time to blame myself. I needed to reassure Maddy. Who knew what this might do to her, considering her medical situation? I smiled and placed my hands on her shoulder.

"I'm sure it's fine. Let me get my phone and call him. If I can't get him, I'll call Drew, okay?"

"All right. That seemed to put her a bit at ease, but I could tell she demanded clear confirmation; I did too. Deep down, a knot formed around my heart, and I seemed to get tighter with every passing second. I needed to release it by knowing my man was okay.

"Where did I keep my phone?" I muttered while trying to recall if I left it in my room. Perhaps I forgot it in Ron's room when I went to clean it.

"Madam, your phone is here." Tally, another one of the maids, informed me, picking up the phone from the table and handing it to me.

She looked concerned, and I got it. Their boss might be in a precarious situation, but I wish that wasn't the truth.

"Thank you, Tally."

I quickly called Ron's number. My heart might as well tear out of my chest at this point because how the hell did it beat ten times faster and harder?! Does it want to explode? The same thing that happened when Maddy called him. Switched off.

"What did it say?" Maddy inquired. I began breathing heavily now. No, this girl didn't need any more trouble.
