We waited for him to wake up, and it took at least an hour and a half. Drew managed to remain still, but Maddy and I could not. We went outside and got something to eat just because we wanted to walk, even buying for Drew as well. But when the time came to see Ron, food was the last thing on our minds.

The doctor came out, and we all stood up. "He's awake now. You can come and see him," he said with enthusiasm.

I smiled, looking at Maddy, who also beamed from ear to ear, then glancing at Drew. He had a serious look.

"We can go, right?" Drew asked.

"Come with me." I checked the name on his tag, and it read, Dr. Franklin. He led us to the ward, and we opened the door to see Ron. He smiled at us.

"Why, aren't you a sight for sore eyes?"

Ronald Razor's POV

Every bone in my body felt like it had been stretched like gum. The pain simmered through me over and over in waves. All I wished to know was why that happened… for someone to run into our car. My mind already made several permutations on why that happened and what went on.

"Enough thinking," I said to myself, struggling to get my hand to my forehead. My head banged fervently. Probably a sign that I needed to stop thinking so hard. I hadn't gotten the chance to ask Dr. Franklin about the fate of the man who rammed into us. Unfortunately, he might have been dead already. I'd like to be able to question him. Well, not me specifically. I was in no shape. Drew would do that. The door opened, taking me out of my thoughts, and I looked up to see Maddy, Maryam, and Drew.

Suddenly, my pain felt lighter. Just the sight of them served as enough to comfort my soul. What a lucky man I am, I thought.

"Why, aren't you a sight for sore eyes?" I remarked, trying to give off a good smile.

"Dad!" Maddy ran like a coyote and hugged me tightly, causing me quite some pain.

"Hurts, hurts," I whispered to her.

You need to take it easy with your father. He's still recovering." Dr. Franklin added.

"Oh, sorry. Sorry." She backed up, and we engaged in a warmer embrace. I could hear her sobbing on my chest. She must have been so scared, afraid of losing the only family she had left.

"I'm not going anywhere," I assured her. "I'll always be here to watch after you."

"Look at what happened!!" she defiantly countered. "What if you had died, Dad?! I don't even wanna think about what I would have…"

"Don't worry, Maddy. He's here to stay." The woman of my dreams, Maryam, said to her, placing a hand on her back before turning her attention to me.

"Hey, Stranger," I said, holding her hand. "I know, I'm sorry." Her eyes got watery, but she simply nodded. No further words needed to be said because that was enough. I could feel it all: her pain, that uncertainty, the love, everything.

"I'm fine, now, Maryam."

"I'll give you guys some space." Dr. Franklin said and proceeded to leave.

"Thank you, Doctor," I showed my gratitude. The others followed, thanking him too.

"It's nothing. I'm just happy you're okay. How do you feel?"

"Better. Still in pain, but that's to be expected."

"Alright then. Be sure to tell me if anything changes."

After the doctor left, we went on to discuss the details surrounding the accident and I explained the situation to him. I couldn't ask Drew about the most suspicious part because Maddy was in the room. However, we had a way of talking between the lines and it became evident something fishy was going on.

"Maddy, could you please get me some water from the machine?"

"Alright, sure." While she stood up, I gave Maddy a look that said 'Please, go with her.' Without questioning it, she quickly offered to go with Maddy.

"Come on, my dear. I'll go with you."

"No, I'm not a kid."
