"Just let her go with you. Okay?"

"Sure, whatever."

After the ladies were gone, I could finally hear what Drew had been trying to tell me since.

"What the hell happened, Drew?"

"I just received word from the police in charge of the crime scene, Terry… the one we know."

"Yeah, yeah. What did he say?"

"He thinks there was foul play."

"What do you mean by foul play? The guy that ran into us?"

"Yes, but beyond that, something is wrong."

What the hell? Someone just tried to kill me?!

"Just focus on your recovery. I'll handle the digging. We need you at 100% when we make our move." Drew opined.

Damn. Recovering from such a crash would be hard as hell, but I was up for the challenge.

Chapter eighteen

Ronald Razor’s POV

"Fuck!"Iyelled, bangingmy hand on the table. Things had been harder than I expected after the car crash. Drew said he would handle things with the police about the uncertain circumstances behind the attack on me. The guy who drove the car that hit us remained in a coma, but investigations have already begun.

Thankfully, we already had recent contact with the police when it came to our company being tampered with by Coen. It made it easier for us to follow up with them.

Right now, my issue is more personal. I could barely walk, and it frustrated me to no end. I knew that it'd just been a week since the accident, and I was lucky to be alive, but I needed to get back to work. Ugh. I'd told the doctors that we would do the surgery because honestly, that was the best choice for my daughter.

Also, Maryam's upcoming album release hovered on the horizon, and I must be fit for that, too. There were so many things going on now. With my body in this state, I knew if I could fulfill all my roles, and that annoyed me to no end.

"Is everything okay?" Maryam asked while opening the door.

"How did you even hear me?"

"I was on my way here to check on you." She smiled, but I didn't return the favor, looking away instead.

My hands rested on my head. "I feel so fucking useless, especially with important things coming up."

Maryam walked to me and wrapped her arms around my neck from behind. "That's why you have me… and Drew… and Maddy... and the maids… and the guards. You don't have to do everything alone. That's one thing I've learned in this city. Even if you can, you don't have to. I'm pretty sure you can’t right now," she reminded.

"I don't… I don't even know where to start to gain my…" My mouth stopped moving as I couldn't formulate the correct words. My body felt slow and heavy, like they were soaked clothes inside me, slowly weighing me down.

"I love you. You don't have to do more than what you can do. It is fine to lean on us, okay? You've been carrying a lot by yourself for a long time."

"How lucky I am to have you in my life," I said to her, and we kissed. Amid all the pain I'd gone through mentally and physically recently, a kiss from her was enough to quell it, even if it was momentary. My headache was dampened, and my bones felt lighter.

"I love you so fucking much," I repeated before kissing her on the cheek, and she giggled. So cute.

My phone rang, taking us out of the moment, and I groaned. But it was Drew calling. "Hey, man, what's up?"

"Dude, we've finally been able to narrow it down," he explained.

"What do you mean?" I put it on loudspeaker.
