Surprisingly, he isn't mean to me like he was after our first encounter. As a matter of fact, Jayden is even warmer toward me.

My tasks have been reduced, and he even smiles when he talks to me.

I thought I was going to regret that night but right now, I’d give anything to go back and do it over and over again.

I’d been thinking about it too long by the time I finally summoned the courage to seduce and fuck Jayden.

When I saw the alcohol at dinner, I saw a great window of opportunity.

I could do it and blame the alcohol later if it backfired.

After that night, Jayden has tried to have me over at his house in disguise of work, but I’m not that dumb to not know he yearns for more.

If we go at that pace, everyone at the office will soon suspect and put two and two together, and I would hate to be the center of office gossip.

Apart from that, I suspect Jayden wants to be more than that because of how he now acts toward me.

He leaves anonymous notes at my desk and has been sending dresses to my house.

While this feels like a dream come true for me as it would for any other girl, I recognize that this could just be a phase for him that he will soon outgrow.

He will get bored when the excitement dies down and he has a new thing to chase.

And what happens then?

I love all of the butterflies and giddy feelings that come with it, but with a man like Jayden, a happy-ever-after is totally unrealistic.

He’s still a womanizer among other things.

He’s wealthy and can have and discard things whenever he wants, and I would hate to be one of those.

I know it will break me. As if being left at the altar wasn’t enough.

The thought of going through that all over again is scary in itself.

I’m no longer a teenage girl with all the time in the world and no care whatsoever.

Right now, my feelings are not just stupid crushes. They are real and they can totally crush me.

“Are you coming? We’re going over to Rubies for lunch,” Lydia says, interrupting my thoughts.

“Yeah, in a minute, though,” I reply. “I need to wrap this up.”

“Oh, okay. See you there,” she calls as she walks away behind Claire and Jesse.

I sigh and look at the screen of my computer. Maybe I should really utilize my lunch breaks before Jayden changes his mind.

“Carissa.”

Speak of the devil.

“Shouldn’t you be on your break?” he asks as soon as I enter his office and shut the door behind me.

“Yes, I was just about to leave. How about you?”

“We can go together, then. I was just on my way,” he answers, but he doesn't make any attempt to leave his chair.

“Jayden,” I sigh, “you suck at pretending. Everyone is going to know about us soon if you keep up like this.”
