“You are such a tease,” I say under my breath as I alight.

I am not sure exactly how my life happened to become an extension of Jayden’s, but I’ll blame it on that night at the club.

Sometimes I wonder if things would have turned out different if he was just my boss and he had not met me the night before.

Would he still find me as enticing as he seems to now?

Or would my life be the normal life of an assistant?

These questions disrupt my sleep at night. One day, I hope I can get an answer.

I walk into my room and immediately begin to undress.

I need a long shower and some sleep before we get back to the office tomorrow and I have to strain my eyes and look at a computer all day.

I stand near the window, my silhouette framed by the city’s distant lights. My fingers move swiftly, undoing the buttons of my blouse one by one, revealing a hint of delicate lace beneath.

My blouse slips from my shoulders, pooling at my feet, revealing the subtle curvature of my collar bones.

I pause for a moment, letting my fingers graze the strap of my bra as I consider my reflection in the mirror.

There is a quiet confidence in my gaze, a sense of intimacy within myself.

I unhook my bra and let it fall away followed by my skirt.

Once inside the bathroom, I ease out of my underwear as the cool water meets my skin.

The sound of the running water becomes a sanctuary, a private moment of renewal and vulnerability.

As I emerge from the embrace of the shower, I hear the unexpected sound of footsteps.

My heart quickens and a sudden wave of panic washes over me.

As I turn, I find myself face to face with an equally startled Jayden, who had entered the room without warning.

Our eyes meet in a shared moment of shock as I stand naked before him.

The man has already seen me naked twice. What good will a towel do now?

“I came to ask if you would like dinner,” he stammered, taking in the sight of my unclad body.

“I just want some sleep,” I reply quietly, making no attempt to cover myself.

He is standing there looking at me, and I can hear him breathing loudly as his chest heaves while he makes the hard decision of either taking a few steps toward me or retreating from the room.

Words elude us. We just stand there in silence, each waiting for the other to make a move.

With a stammered apology and reluctant retreat, Jayden finally exits the room, leaving me standing there, my heart still racing.

I let out a shaky breath and sink into the soft embrace of the bed, still unclad.

I stare blankly at the wall, wondering what was going through Jayden’s mind when he just stood there looking at me.

Chapter fourteen

JAYDEN

Iwish I could have a day where I got to think about anything other than my assistant.
