“You tell that asshole to take my call or else he will be seeing me soon.”

“Alright. Do have a nice day,” I cut her off before she can rain more insults on poor Jayden and maybe even me.

She must be really hurt to go as far as calling his work phone.

I wonder what Jayden did.

And he better be careful because it won't be long before he meets his match.

Didn't they say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?

While it may seem like I’m worried that Jayden might get into trouble with his truckload of women, I’m actually a little jealous.

What does he do with all these women, anyway?

The phone rings again, and I pick it up.

“This is Jayden’s office––” I start to say.

“How dare you cut me off? Are you his new hoe? I promise you will wish you never hung up on me.”

“Ma’am––”

She won’t let me get a word in as she keeps going off over the phone.

This one is a tough one, isn’t she?

I hang up again and exhale heavily while leaning back on my chair.

I can’t help but wonder how long I will have to deal with this.

Just as I try to get some peace and quiet, the phone goes off again.

As I watch it ring, I’m prepared to lose my job on this one.

Emily or whatever her name is will have to learn some manners.

“Now, I don't know who you think you are, but you need to learn to leave men alone if they don't want you,” I almost yell into the receiver. “Stop making a fool of yourself, and if you say one more thing or call me out of my name again, you will see my face in court. Do you understand?”

I can only hear the faint breathing of the other person at the end of the line. Apart from that, it’s total silence.

I look around the room and notice everyone has stopped for a brief moment to look in my direction.

I clear my throat. “Hello?”

“Carissa, are you okay?”

My eyes grow wide in shock. “Jayden?”

“In my office, now.”

I quietly walk into Jayden’s office, hoping I haven’t gotten myself into great trouble. I’m a little uncomfortable as he watches my every step from the door until I get to his large mahogany table.

“You sounded upset,” he says and gestures for me to sit adjacent to him.

“I’m sorry. I just went off because she won't stop calling and howling threats,” I respond. “I think I’m just a bit stressed out.”

Jayden scoffs. “There is no need to apologize. Working a corporate job doesn't mean you have to take everyone’s bullshit.”
