I exhale deeply, wondering how I went from never wanting to talk to him again to lying next to him, almost naked.

Chapter twenty-eight

JAYDEN

Carissa and I exchange looks as I walk into the office, but this time, she’s blushing instead of giving me the death stare or not looking at all.

I smile to myself as I take my seat, staring at my large mahogany desk that now carries a memory of the night before.

All of the files and ledgers that now lay neatly on the table were scattered on the floor last night. The thought of Carissa’s half-naked body twisting underneath me sends my heart racing.

As if that isn’t enough, I had lent her my blazer since I completely ruined her shirt, and we ended up back at my place.

The night was long.

I experienced Carissa’s body under every light that exists in my house. I couldn't be happier to be finally forgiven and in such a grand way.

If that was the price I had to pay in order to be rewarded like this, I must say it was totally worth it.

I would probably have skipped work today and spent the day with her, but Carissa being who she is wouldn't let that happen. She was worried everyone would put two and two together and figure it out.

I honestly don't care because I plan to make it official. And so what happens then? But I still have to respect her wishes until she feels ready.

She managed to get up pretty early and make it to the office just in time. I was so exhausted that I slept through it.

This feels like the opportunity of a lifetime, and I am determined not to mess this up again. I know Carissa still has her doubts. I have to put in the work to keep her, and that is exactly what I will do.

“Good morning,” she says as soon as she walks into my office, a little shy.

“Good morning, Carissa,” I respond with a smile. “Can you believe it? Yesterday, you won't look at me and today you are smiling at me?”

I look around as though expecting to see someone else in the room who she might be smiling at.

“You better stop playing like that before I change my mind,” she replies, looking at her tablet with red cheeks.

I laugh softly. “Do I have a schedule today? Or do you miss me and just want to see my face?”

She chuckled. “Yes, Jayden, you have a schedule today.”

My grin widens. “I love how you say my name.”

She rolls her eyes, smiling just as much as I am. I can't believe how much I have missed seeing her like this with me. It's safe to say that I have fallen in love with her.

“You have a meeting with the men from New York in an hour, a board meeting shortly after that at three, and that should be all,” she says.

“Can you add dinner with Carissa at seven?” I ask. She raises a brow and then giggles shyly.

“Okay. May I ask what inspired this dinner?”

“I want to cook you a meal,” I reply. “I know it sounds corny, but I really just want that with you.”

She pauses for a second and then finally says, “Jayden, I don't want you to think you have to do anything for me just because we had sex. Yes, it was great and I forgave you yesterday. You can stop now.”

I sigh. “The sex was great, I agree, but that is not why I want to do this. I care about you, Carissa. And I want to show you in the ways that you like, of course.”

“Alright,” she smiles. “Seven it is,”

“We can leave together after work, if you’d like,” I offer, hoping she won’t say no.
