I take her hand with a smile. “I think the real question is, what have you done to me, Carissa?”

Her cheeks turn a delicate shade of pink, the telltale sign of a blush creeping up from beneath her skin.

“I have grown so much since I met you. More than I have grown in thirty-one years,” I continue, “I will never make you sad again. The day I let you shed a single tear, I want you to leave me.”

She smiles. “So, what is this? Are we boyfriend and girlfriend now?”

“I already told you. You are mine.” I wink.

“Not until you ask properly,” she says, tilting her head to the side as her hair follows suit to reveal her elongated neck.

I massage her fingers gently, tightening and loosening my grip occasionally as I do so.

“Will you be my girlfriend, Carissa?” I ask.

“I want to,” She smiles.

“Then say yes,”

“Yes, Jayden.”

I lift her hand up to my lips and plant a kiss there. We have come such a long way, and I didn't think this would be possible, even for me.

That one night at the bar has brought us this far. And although ours is a love story where I play the villain for the most part, I am now fully aware that what I feel in my heart is love.

“Oh my God,” She moans as she resumes filling her mouth with vegetables. “Everyone will be so shocked at the office. Except Lydia, of course.”

“You have to stop worrying about what other people think,” I say. I still can't tell why it bothers her so much.

“Jayden, I don't want anyone to think there has been some kind of favoritism at the office. I know how hard I work to earn my spot there,” she goes on. “Also, we are from completely different worlds. What are the odds that you, a young billionaire, magically dropped all of the model-looking girls you used to hook up with just to end up with me, an average girl.”

I place a finger against her lips to shush her. “Don’t ever speak about yourself like that ever again. I wish you could see yourself through my eyes.”

She sighs. “Can we just keep it away from the office? For now?”

“What happens if Lydia tells someone?”

“She hasn't told anyone so far, so she won’t. And even then it would just be a rumor, right?”

I pull away to observe her. Carissa is indeed entirely different from what I’m used to. Anyone else would want to show off, but here she is trying to keep our relationship a secret.

“Alright.” I nod in agreement. “You don't want anyone at the office to know. You think I’m trying to buy you off when I get you gifts. I thought girls like these things? Tell me how I can love you, how you want to be loved.”

A soft warmth spread across her face. Her eyes sparkle with a hint of delight lending an endearing charm to her complexion.

“No one has ever asked me that before,” she says. “I just want you to act out on your true feelings for me without holding back.It doesn't have to be for show. It can just be our own peaceful moments together. Like this.”

I nod. “You are incredible, you know that right?”

With a bashful smile, she lowers her head momentarily, trying to conceal the sudden rush of emotions that color her cheeks.

“I know.”

We spend the next few minutes just staring into each other’s eyes and allowing our hearts to connect deeper with the silence.

”How do you want to be loved?” she breaks the silence.

I chuckle. “No one has ever asked me that before.”
