We both laugh softly. I lean in closer.

“I just want you to always be happy. I don't want that smile to ever fade because it makes me feel fulfilled that I can make you happy. That is how I want to be loved.”

She bites her lips as her eyes move from my eyes to my lips, and then back to my eyes. I lean even further and she does the same.

Our lips meet in a passionate kiss, sealing the new foundation of our relationship.

Chapter twenty-nine

CARISSA

As I type away on my computer, I find myself grappling with doubts about Jayden’s motives for dating me. Every day breeds a new worry in my mind, even though he has improved incredibly and has not stopped making me feel special.

I cherish our connection, but I can’t shake off the persistent concern that Jayden might still view the relationship through the lens of convenience rather than genuine affection.

The whispers of my inner apprehensions grow louder each day, leaving me torn between my emotions for Jayden and the need for constant reassurance.

This is the real reason why I don't want to go public with my relationship with Jayden just yet, aside from the criticism I might get from my work colleagues.

And Jayden has been patient, maintaining a professional front in the presence of the other staff while we handle our relationship outside of the office.

It’s been nothing but bliss since I agreed to be Jayden’s girlfriend. The memories of the past month flood my mind, painting a picture of luxurious experiences and blissful moments that define our time together.

Our first romantic weekend getaway to a serene beachside villa, the whispered promises under the starlit sky, and the shared laughter during candlelit dinners flood my thoughts. The fine dining experiences every other week that tantalize my taste buds and the little surprises Jayden leaves under the pillow for me to wake up to.

I can’t deny the allure of these experiences, yet a part of me ponders if these grand gestures are reflections of Jayden’s affection or an expression of his financial prowess, as usual. After all, he did even more when I was just an object for his game with his friends.

Despite my concerns, I cherish the memories of our shared moments, the warmth of Jayden’s embrace, and the whispered reassurances that accompanied each lavish escapade. These memories are etched in my heart, serving as reminders of the enchanting love we share amidst the opulent backdrop.

We have spent every day together, and it’s never enough for me. I have fallen hopelessly and helplessly in love with him.

My phone beeps. Speak of the devil.

I smile as I open Jayden’s message.

“Hey, baby. Black or blue tie?”

I open the attached photo of him holding both ties up, and even I can’t decide. He looks good in everything.

“Blue tie,” I respond with a wink smiley.

Lost in reverie, I open the photo again and zoom into his face. My fingers gently trace the contours of his smile captured in the image, a smile I once thought was impossible to see.

The photo encapsulates the essence of his charm and the magnetic allure that has drawn me to him. It is a reminder of the man I admire, both as a partner and a professional.

His message drops again, and I open it to find kissy faces. The smile on my lips grows wider.

A soft knock on my desk interrupts my reverie. Startled, I rush to place the phone screen down and look up to find Claire peering inquisitively at me.

“Hey, Carissa.”

“Claire, how are you?” I ask, as that seems to be the only response that comes to mind.

“I’m fine,” she replies with a gentle smile. “Sorry to interrupt, but Pamela needs these reports by noon for the meeting.”

“Of course, I will have them ready,” I reply, composing myself and taking the sheet of paper she is handing me.

She nods and walks away.
