“Carissa, I have known about this for the longest time. Why didn't I say anything before now?” Lydia goes on, “I promise, I didn't know it was going to get out when I told Claire.”

I feel a wave of disappointment as I look at her. “Well, you have known Claire longer than I have. You should’ve known how much of a loudmouth she is.”

“I am so sorry, Carissa.”

“I know you are more concerned about keeping your job than respecting my privacy, but don't worry, you will keep your job,” I say, trying to control the whirlwind of emotions growing within me. “However, my personal life is something I prefer to keep out of work regardless of whether you bumped into it or not. I hope you can respect that going forward.”

I resolve to maintain a safe distance and clear boundaries when it comes to my professional relations as I walk out of the restroom and back to my desk. Fortunately for me, Jayden has shown up.

It will feel nice to share the burden of this new development with him, seeing as we are both involved in it.

“Hey, baby,” Jayden says, all smiles as soon as I walk into his office.

“You don't have to talk in hushed tones anymore,” I respond as I round his table and give him a quick hug, relieved by the light kiss he plants on my forehead. “It’s out there now. Everyone knows about us.”

“How come?” he asks, his face void of expression.

“How else?” I ask. “Lydia.”

Jayden chuckles. “I knew it was going to be out soon one way or the other. Should I be happy about this?”

I roll my eyes and sit on his desk, confidently facing him, “Isn’t that what you always wanted?”

My skirt slides further up my thighs as I sit, giving him a tempting view.

“Too bad our sneaky nights at the office won't be sneaky anymore,” I add with a wink. “Literally.”

“I’m happy you don't seem upset about it,” Jayden says as he puts his hand around my waist. “Considering how you used to really dread the idea of anyone in the office finding out.”

“Well,” I wrap his tie around my hand and draw him closer, “it doesn’t seem so bad now.”

He kisses my nose, my forehead, and finally my lips. “We have work to do.”

I chuckle. “Do we, now? Everyone knows we’re an item, so we better make the most of it wherever or whenever we want.”

The door creaks open as Pamela enters. The expression on her face is more of fear than shock.

“I’m sorry,” she stammers. “I’ll come back.”

I smile as I sit up and adjust my skirt, standing next to Jayden. I couldn't be happier that Pamela will be the one to confirm the news to the others.

“Don’t worry,” Jayden stops her as she tries to leave. “You’re already here. What do you want?”

He takes his seat and looks at her intently.

“Um…” she starts to say, avoiding my eyes. “I have the proposal for the new project.”

“Hand them to Carissa,” Jayden responds.

I tuck my hair behind my ears as she hurries up to me and hands me the proposal. “There should be a soft copy of this, I believe.”

“I have sent that to you via email, sir,” she addresses Jayden, still avoiding my gaze.

“All of those things should be sent to Carissa. You get to me through her moving forward,” Jayden replies. “Do you understand?”

“Yes, sir,” she says hesitantly.

“Alright, thank you.”
