She immediately stands on tiptoes and gives me a brief kiss. “I want you too, Jayden. But first, don’t ruin my dish. I want to make sure you taste every spice in it.”

She returns to her cooking with a broad smile on her face.

I realize how close I am to proposing to her right now, but Carissa, although being a simple girl, deserves a ring and a much better experience.

I continue to watch her with profound affection, cherishing these moments where I can admire her, not just for her outward beauty but for the depth and grace that encompass her entire being.

I venture into a realm of sentiment and significance as I seek the perfect ring for Carissa.

My office table, usually adorned with financial reports and strategic plans, now hosts an array of catalogs showcasing exquisite jewelry.

I meticulously study each ring, considering its craftsmanship, the brilliance of the stones, and the elegance of the design, putting into consideration what Carissa might really love. Something beyond the monetary value, a ring that reflects the depth of our love and commitment to each other.

I ponder over various settings, gemstone cuts, and intricate details, aiming to find a piece that will not only adorn her finger but serve as a testament of my love and devotion to her.

The door to my office door swings open quietly as Carissa steps in. Just as she nears my desk, my head snaps up, a startled expression crossing my features. Caught off-guard, I quickly shuffle the catalogs, attempting to conceal the pages I had been scrutinizing.

“What are you doing?” she asks, stopping in her tracks.

“Um, work,” I respond, hoping she doesn’t notice the tension in my voice. With a charming yet nervous smile, I try to mask the situation.

“Work?” She narrows her eyes. “And you are hiding it from me?”

“It’s just… not something that should get out now,” I respond, then quickly try to divert the conversation as I tuck away the catalogs. “What’s up?”

“You have a meeting in thirty minutes. Jesse wants to pitch,” she replies, looking at her watch.

“Oh, okay. Just knock on my door when it’s time.”

She nods and attempts to leave, but stops right by the door.

“Are you sure you don’t want to share?”

“Share what?” I ask, feigning ignorance.

“Your little secret in those papers,” she says in a suspicious tone.

“Baby, it’s nothing,” I try to reassure her.

“Well then, if it’s really nothing then why can’t you just tell me?”

“I promise I will tell you soon. Just trust me, okay?”

She nods hesitantly and finally leaves. I let out a deep exhale.

That was pretty close. I would have just gone down on one knee if she had seen those pictures, and then she could get the ring the next day.

I want her to be surprised. To be happy.

An unusual energy fills the office today, an air of excitement and anticipation that hints at something extraordinary brewing behind closed doors.

Typically composed and focused in front of my staff, I’m beaming with so much enthusiasm, exchanging hushed conversations and secretive glances with them.

Today is the day I ask Carissa to marry me.

I made sure she wouldn’t show up to work today by giving her the day off and promising her an adventure at the office in the evening when everyone else was away.

Throughout the day, a subtle but palpable buzz circulates among my employees, each one playing a part in my clandestine plan.
