When the anticipated moment arrives, the office falls into a conspiratorial hush. The staff gathers in strategic positions, awaiting Carissa’s arrival.
“Hello? Jayden?” she calls as she steps in through the door of the dark office feeling for the light switch.
She finally finds it and flips it on.
A round of applause erupts, filling the room with warmth and joy,startling her.
She chose simplicity for her statement, as always, effortlessly radiating an understated charm that speaks volumes. The soft fabric of her blouse, adorned with delicate floral patterns embroidered along the neckline, adds a touch of femininity to the ensemble.
Paired with the blouse, she’s wearing tailored black trousers that hug her frame with a refined yet comfortable fit. They elongate her legs and accentuate her poise as she moves.
With her hair swept into a loose bun, a few tendrils framing her face, and a touch of natural makeup enhancing her features, she embodies a quiet sophistication.
Her astonished expression turns into a radiant smile as she takes in the sight–the room, adorned with twinkling lights, fragrant flowers, and the atmosphere charged with emotions.
“Jayden,” she calls out, her hand on her chest, “Guys, what is this?”
My heart pounds with anticipation as she steps forward until she’s just two steps in front of me.
“Jayden,” she calls again, her palms covering her mouth.
“I know you might not have wanted me to do it here, but what better way to show you that you don’t have to think too much about anyone here regardless of whether or not they know we are together,” I say, as I look down on her. “They helped me plan this.”
“Well, I can see that,” she says in between soft laughter as she looks around the room at the others as they watch in anticipation.
Amidst heartfelt cheers and well-wishes from my staff, I drop to one knee, producing the ring, the culmination of my carefully orchestrated surprise.
“Carissa, I want to start by saying you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.”
Carissa laughs, and a teardrop falls down her cheek while the others cheer on.
“I can sit here and make you all the promises in the world, but none of them will matter if I don’t make you mine. You changed me and loved me despite all of my flaws, and I had so many. There is no other woman like you, Carissa.”
I look at the ring and then back at her. “Will you make me the happiest man alive and be my wife?”
My voice trembles with emotion as I speak.
The room holds its breath as they await Carissa’s response. A lot of questions suddenly start playing in my head.
What if she says no? What if she just turns around and walks away from my life forever?
I know we haven’t been together long enough, and most of our relationship has been overshadowed by my deceit, but I have never been more certain about anything in my life.
Overwhelmed with emotions, Carissa nods a tearful yet ecstatic yes.
I hurriedly put the ring on her finger as the room jubilates, and I squeeze her into a tight hug.
Our gazes lock, communicating a multitude of unspoken feelings–love, gratitude, and an overwhelming sense of happiness.
