ADDISON

Twenty-four hours and counting.

It was the morning of my best friend’s wedding, and I was so happy for her. But in just twenty-four hours, I’d be at the airport, laptop in front of me, sipping a cinnamon dolce latte with oat milk, no whip. That was my happy place.

A knock on the door made me practically jump out of my skin. Jesus fucking Christ. Could that wedding coordinator not give me two seconds to finish getting ready?

I looked in the mirror. I was ready, actually. Had been for a couple of minutes. I just wanted to take a breath between getting ready and walking out the door.

I took that breath, then let it out, mostly to stop myself from ripping the door open and giving her a piece of my mind. By the time I turned the handle, there was a smile pasted on my face. That smile froze at what I saw.

The wedding coordinator wasn’t standing there. Instead, it was a man. And he was straight out of my dreams.

This guy was gorgeous, but not in a pretty boy, citified way like the guys at home. No, this was mountain man sexy, and I’d shown up here sure that all I’d meet was a bunch of Neanderthals.

“You must be Addison,” the guy said. “The maid of honor?”

I nodded, unable to speak. I’d arrived forty minutes ago, having rideshared my way from the airport in Charlotte to this cabin in the middle of nowhere.

Most of the snow had melted on the roads, thank goodness. For a while there, I’d been sure I wasn’t going to make it to my best friend’s wedding.

“I’m Brody,” he said.

He didn’t hold out a hand for me to shake. I wasn’t sure what to do. Did mountain men shake hands, or was that a city thing? That was probably silly. Everyone shook hands, right?

“Sorry I was late,” I said. “Snow delays. I was stuck at the Nashville airport last night. Had to get a hotel and catch the first flight out this morning. It was a freaking nightmare.”

His smile faded slightly. The guy was friendly, even if he was all muscles and smoldering stares. He would be Bo’s best friend, though, if he was the best man.

“I’ve kind of fallen down on my maid of honor duties,” I said. “I was going to get here Thursday and do a quick bachelorette party, but an emergency came up at work and…”

He didn’t care about all this. Why was I blabbering like a fool? Because I’d never felt this wave of instant attraction to anyone. I wanted to keep him standing here until I understood it.

“We played a bunch of games last night,” he said. “Sorry you missed it.”

I opened my mouth to respond, but nothing came out. Apparently, I’d gone from gabby to speechless in the space of a few seconds.

“Well…” His gaze shifted to a spot over my shoulder and then flipped back to my face. “I guess I’ll see you out there.”

Oh, crap. He needed to use this bathroom. Here I was, blocking his access. There had to be a bazillion other bathrooms in this massive cabin, but they probably were all taken right now. I’d only gotten one to myself for a few minutes because everyone else was ready and waiting to start the ceremony.

“Yeah…see you out there,” I said.

I bolted out the door like I’d seen a rat or a roach or some other ungodly creature. It had been the opposite. I’d seen the best-looking man on the planet.

The good news was, I’d get to spend the rest of the day around him.

BRODY

Weddings were boring as hell. That’s why I entertained myself with fantasies of the hot blonde on the other side of the bride and groom.

Addison. That was her name. She was Emerald’s maid of honor, so I’d assume they were best friends. All of that may have been mentioned last night when someone said she was delayed. If I’d known she looked like that, I would have paid more attention to any mention of her. I might have even subtly pumped some information out of my best buddy, Bo.

No, I wouldn’t have done that. He would have busted my balls over it.
