“Is Marley with you?” Bo asks, concerned.

“Yes.” I smile up at her through my tears. “She’s right here.”

“That’s good man,” Bo declares. “Didn’t want you to be alone, right now. We’ll get ready and be over in a few, okay?” Before I can reply there’s a lot of scuffling noise on the line again.

“You dipshit!” Rosco growls, “He don’t want us coming over there right now! He’s going to want to celebrate, and we ain’t invited to that party.”

“No, it’s fine!” I call trying to interrupt their argument. “We should be here together when she calls.” After more back and forth, they decide they are indeed coming and they’re bringing breakfast, which will likely be doughnuts, but I’m not complaining. We need to be together.

“I’m going to call the office. Let my staff know we’re working from here today,” I tell Marley when I’ve ended the call with my brothers. She squeals when I pull her onto my lap. I love havingher in my lap. It’s where she needs to be always. I pull up my contact list on my phone. I know it’s early, but I want to get this over with as quickly as possible. We have the phones set to ring to the cell phone of the staff member on call each day. I connect the call and put my phone on speaker, laying it on the night stand so my hands can be on Marley. I’m hoping Marley and I might have a few minutes alone before my brothers show up. I kiss Marley’s temple, as the phone begins to ring, letting my hands slide up her sides to cup her breasts.

“Invictus Security and Protection Agency,” Kristen Jones’ voice comes over the line. “This is Kristen, how may I help you?”

“Good morning, Kristen,” I greet her. “The guys and I will be working from my home today. If anything important comes in, just give me a call on my cell.”

“Sure, Luke,” Kristen returns. “Do you need me to come over? Bring files, coffee, cook, and stuff? I’d love to work from there. Your home is so beautiful. I can have Erik watch the office.” Kristen gushes all this out in rapid fire. She hasn’t been working for me very long, but she’s eager that’s for sure. I have to give her credit for that. She’s only been by my house once to drop off some files, but it obviously made an impression on her.

“That won’t be necessary. I think we’ll be fine,” I tell her. I notice Marley tense in my arms when Kristen offers to come over. Is she jealous? “I think we have all the files we need, but if something comes up, I’ll call you.”

“Okay Luke,” Kristen replies, her voice full of disappointment. “If you’re sure. You know I don’t mind the drive.” Her voice rising hopefully.

“I know, but it’s not necessary,” I assure her, much to her disappointment. My free hand is roaming over the expanse of Marley’s back. My face buried in her neck, dropping kisses between sentences to Kristen. “Be sure to reschedule my one o’clock meeting this afternoon,” I murmur between kisses. “Ifthey absolutely can’t reschedule, I’ll try to make it or have Bo go in my place.”

“Yes, I will.” Kristen can be heard scribbling something. I’m assuming making notes. “Um, Luke?” Kristen questions. I don’t stop the sigh that escapes me.

“Yes?” I return, wondering what she’s needing. I really want to be done with this call so I can focus on Marley until my brothers arrive.

“You guys will need to eat.” Kristen’s voice sounding uncertain. I frown not understanding where this is going. “I could make sure you get lunch like I do here at work. You know how you get distracted and forget to eat sometimes.” It’s true I do get wrapped up in work and forget sometimes, but we don’t need her here for this. Marley has the cutest scowl on her face as she glares at my phone. I pinch my lips together to keep from grinning.

“We’ll get something here,” I tell her as I suck Marley’s pouting lower lip into my mouth. I kiss her deeply.

“You shouldn’t have to take time away from working to prepare food,” Kristen argues. “Please just let me come over, and I can take care of you…um, I mean, you guys.” I roll my eyes. I’m not understanding where this is coming from. Kristen is being unusually pushy this morning.

“Luke, I can cook and do whatever you guys need today,” Marley joins the conversation a little louder than would be necessary to speak just to me. I can tell she wants to make sure Kristen hears her.

“Thanks, baby,” I reply, “that would be most welcome.” I drop a deep sensual kiss to her lips. Marley meets me just as passionately eliciting a groan from me. Marley moans softly, but I’m sure Kristen can hear us and infer what’s happening. When we break apart, I’m a little breathless and more determined than ever to end this call so I can kiss Marley again.

“Marley will take care of anything we need here today, Kristen,” I say. “If we need files or anything, I’ll call you.”

“Marley?” Kristen asks. “Who’s that?” I huff. I know she doesn’t know who I’m speaking of, but honestly it isn’t her business.

“Yes, Marley is my girlfriend.” I look to gauge Marley’s reaction. Her eyes widen slightly before a sweet, sexy grin crosses her face. A gasp can be heard from Kristen, but I’m not concerned about it. I have more important things to do. “Bye Kristen, I’ll call if we need anything.” I end the call and grip Marley by the base of her neck, pulling her in for another kiss. I can’t seem to get enough of her. She pulls back eventually, still grinning.

“So?” she drawls, “I’m your girlfriend, huh?” She twirls her hair around one finger as she gives me a coy look.

“Yes.” I raise a brow at her. “You okay with that?”

“Hmm…” She tilts her head and taps a finger on her chin as if she’s considering it. “I don’t know. I haven’t been asked. Just seems a lot of assumptions on your part, and we both know what assuming gets you.”

“Marley!” I growl out, “What do you think the last two days have meant? Do you think I bring just any woman to my home? My bed?”

“Well, I don’t know, Luke,” Marley sasses. “Kristen seems to know all about your home and awfully eager to come here. For all I know, you’ve had a long line of women in your bed.” I want to be angry, but Marley’s right. She doesn’t know me or my dating, sexual history. We kind of skipped all that part. We went from casual acquaintances to bed buddies at lightning speed.

“You’re right, baby,” I concede. “We haven’t taken time to talk about this, about us. I’m sorry.” I tilt my head to make eye contact with her. “I care for you, Marley. I have had feelings for you for a while, but I hadn’t acted on them. For the first time in my life, I was afraid to ask a girl out. Do you know why that is?” Her eyes are wide as she shakes her head. “Because I was afraid of hearing the answer. Until you, I’d never feared hearing the word no. I was afraid you didn’t feel the same way, and it was easier to leavethings hopeful than to take a chance and have you shoot me down.”

“Luke, honey,” Marley coos. “I’ve been head over heels crazy about you since the first day I saw you.” I smile at hearing this confession. “I just knew you could see how I felt on my face. I wanted you to ask me out. I dreamed about it, but I never thought it would happen. You are so handsome, intelligent, and successful, I knew I wasn’t good enough for you.” Hearing Marley’s confession increases the love I feel for her. Yeah, I love her, not that I’m ready to tell her. So instead, I kiss her briefly before rectifying my previous blunder.

“So?” I peer at her. “Will you be my girlfriend?” Her whole face lights up.
