Until I began helping him, I didn’t realize just how big his company is. It isn’t just him and his brothers. He has over a hundred employees. His company provides security guards to several businesses in the Virginia Beach area, personal protection services to individuals, and they investigate cybercrimes for individuals and companies. It’s a lot to keep up with, but Luke seemsto be well organized and on top of everything, despite our lack of sleep.

“Baby, would you take these files out to Kristen for me?” Luke hands me a stack of yellow file folders stuffed with papers. Despite everything being on the computer, Luke still has a lot of paper files as well. Taking the files, I leave his office to hand them over to Kristen. I see her sitting at her desk, with her back to me, but she’s on the phone. I wait patiently while she finishes her call.

“…she’s been here every day,” Kristen says to the caller. “It’s been awful. I can’t turn around without seeing her. The worst part is he’s all over her. I have to be sure and wait for him to say ‘come in’ because it’s un-telling what I might walk in on. He’s always touching her, kissing her. It makes me sick.” She pauses to listen. “Gross! I don’t want to think about her doing that to him in his office. I don’t know what he sees in her. She’s fat, has dark circles under her eyes, and she’s moody as hell. Crying one minute, snapping at everyone the next. It’s exhausting to be around her. I used to love working here, but that’s when I thought I had a chance of getting with Luke. I mean how awesome would it be to have access to all that money? He’s loaded!”

I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Kristen is pissing me off. It’s one thing to talk about me but to be so causally talking about getting with Luke just for his money. I take a step toward her when she begins talking again.

“I know it would suck being with a cripple, but he’s rich so it’d be worth it.” Kristen giggles. “He probably can’t do anything, but I could go without sex to have all that money. Besides, I could always fuck one of his brothers. They’re all hot as hell, but he’s the owner.” I’m about to blow a gasket. Before I can make a move, I hear someone behind me. I turn to see Enos and Rosco standing behind me. I don’t know how long they’ve been standing there, but from the looks on their faces, it’s been long enough.

“I’ll take those files, Marley,” Rosco says loudly, reaching outto take the stack from me. I don’t know what to say. I glance back at Kristen. She turned around when Rosco spoke. Her face visibly pale. Enos pushes past us. His eyes locked on Kristen, who quickly ends her call.

“Fuck, Kristen!” Enos growls. “I thought I made myself perfectly clear a month ago.” Kristen looks like a deer facing down a pack of wolves. “You need to get your things and get the fuck out and don’t come back.” Kristen’s eyes widen. Her face covered in shock.

“Wh-what?” she stammers. “Enos, why are you saying this?” So, she’s going to play innocent, like she wasn’t just talking shit about me and Luke. I guess she’s going with my plan when Enos had caught Luke and I in the kitchen, deny, deny, deny.

“I heard you on the phone, Kristen,” Enos says. His voice dripping with distain. “You make me sick. You should be so lucky for Luke to pay you some attention, but he’s a smart man. He would never fall for a skank like you. Now I won’t tell you again. Get. The. Fuck. Out!”

“No, Enos, please,” Kristen begs. “I need this job. I don’t know what you think you heard, but you miss understood.”

“We all heard you.” Rosco joins the conversation. “You’re nothing but a gold digger and a subpar secretary. Get out before I remove you myself.”

“What the hell is going on?” Luke calls from the door of his office. His eyes meet mine, and he begins to head toward me. I’m at a loss as to what to do. I’d like to punch Kristen in the face, but that wouldn’t help anything except to make me feel better.

“Kristen is no longer employed with us,” Enos answers through gritted teeth. “She’s just leaving.” Taking that as her cue, she finally stands, grabbing her purse, and heading for the door.

“You’ll regret this!” she calls over her shoulder as she heads out the side door to the parking lot. “You’ll all be sorry.” Then she’s gone. The door slamming behind her. I let out the breath I’ve been holding before turning to Luke who’s reached my side.

“Anyone want to fill me in?” Luke inquires looking from me to each of his brothers. I’m not about to repeat what the bitch said. All three of us shake our heads before Enos speaks.

“Kristen has let her true colors come shining through,” Enos says, still looking at the closed door regretfully. “She isn’t a good fit for the company. We’re better off without her.”

“Agreed,” Rosco comments. “Marley can you answer the phones until I can get Erik in here?”

“Sure,” I reply as I head over and take a seat at Kristen’s desk.

“Marley you don’t have to do that,” Luke protests.

“I know, but I really don’t mind,” I argue. “I like helping out around here.” He nods and comes over to show me how to operate the multi-line phone system. He shows me a list of extensions, how to place a call on hold, and how to transfer calls. When he’s sure I can handle it, he leaves with Enos and Rosco to retreat into his office. I’m sure they’ll be discussing what just happened.

An hour later, I’m still seething over how she spoke about Luke. She has no idea just how much of a man he is, and for that, I’m damn thankful. She doesn’t know how good he is in so many ways. Not just physically in bed, but in his nature. His patience and kindness are more than I ever dreamed I could find in a man. He’s proven that in the weeks since my abduction. Despite how hard things have been with lack of sleep and my mood swings, he’s been patient and kind, a wall of strength for me. His tolerance with my behavior has been amazing, more than I deserve. He’s kept me grounded and kept me from losing my mind.

Time passes rather quickly as I’m busy answering phone calls and putting away the stack of flies I’d originally been taking to Kristen when I overheard her conversation. Before I know it, Erik has come in to take over my job. I give up my seat, but a part of me doesn’t want to turn over the phones. I’ve enjoyed the job. It’s kept me so busy I haven’t had time to think about all the things that happened to me all those weeks ago. I head intoLuke’s office to see if there’s something I can do to help him. He looks up when I enter.

“Hey baby,” Luke greets me, holding out his hand to me. I hurry around his desk to drop onto his lap. His touch, his kiss is just what I need. “Mmm,” he purrs. “I missed you being in my office, but sure do like this reunion.” I giggle against his mouth, kissing him back.

“I like it, too,” I murmur against his lips before pulling back. “I missed you, but you know I actually liked answering the phones and filing. I was so busy I haven’t thought about all the other stuff this whole time.” Luke looks at me curiously, contemplatively.

“What are you saying?” Luke asks. “Do you want to be my secretary?” I tilt my head to the side as I consider his questions. Do I? Could I even handle it full time? I have no experience as a secretary, but I would like to try.

“Maybe? I don’t know!” I exclaim. “I don’t have any experience or training, but I enjoyed it. It made me feel…accomplished, important.” I shrug. Luke is grinning at me.

“Baby, I would love for you to work here with me,” Luke declares as I stare at him in surprise. “Ever since you came to live with me and wanted to find a job, I wanted to give you a job here, but I didn’t think you’d take it. I know you are independent, and I worried you wouldn’t like me taking over like that.”

“You’re right,” I concede. “At that time, I would’ve resisted. I would have seen it as charity, but I know you so much better now, and after everything I’ve been through, I realize this is just your nature. It’s your way of taking care of me. You thrive on taking care of those who are important to you. If you really want me to work here, I’d be happy to do so.” Luke pulls me in for another deep, sensual kiss. I can feel him getting worked up under my thighs.

“We better stop.” I pant when we come up for air. “Someone will come in here and catch us.”

“Not if you go lock the door.” Luke smirks at me. I roll myeyes as I slide off his lap. Am I really going to do this? Have sex with my boyfriend boss in his office? I should really think about my life choices, but he is, after all, going to be my boss. You’re supposed to keep your boss happy, right? I click the lock on his office door as I turn back to face him. He’s grinning at me in triumph. Cocky bastard. I should unlock the door and leave him wanting, but…I’m in need of a distraction, and I’m already wet, so here we go.
