“Good morning, Luna. How are you feeling?” My head snapped around the room, looking for Luna Luisa.

“Celeste?” Markus looked at me, and the concern was back in his eyes.

“How are you feeling?” the doctor repeated. My brows furrowed, and I couldn’t understand why the doctor called me luna. My head was still too muddled, and thinking about it gave me a headache, so I decided to let it go for now.

“My head hurts, my side still hurts and my jaw feels sore,” I said, and then, with a bit of embarrassment, I added, “And I need to use the bathroom.”

“Well, you have been sleeping for three days, so that’s understandable. Can we help her to the bathroom, please?” The doctor turned to the warriors. Two started moving to help, but they stopped when Markus let out a low growl

“I got it,” he said, and the warriors immediately returned to the table. He walked over and lifted me like a child. I couldn’t stop the blush that surfaced on my face. I could feel warmth and tingles at every point where our bodies connected, and I resisted the shiver that threatened to go down my body at his touch.

I took a moment to compose myself while in the bathroom. I never had that kind of reaction to any man before. I washed my face and looked in the mirror. My hair was a mess, and there was still some bruising around the base of my jaw and my right eye.

Without warning, my consciousness jerked forward. Markus was holding me flush to his body; his hand was in my hair. I felt a wave of heat in my core when I returned to myself, and the migraine burst forth like a train wreck. I stumbled out of the bathroom and lost my balance when the door swung too quickly. I started falling face-first, but I didn’t land like I thought I would. Instead, I hit a very firm chest. I looked up, and Markus was holding onto me. He pulled me up against his chest and held me up. I felt the same heat from my vision spread from my core. His eyes darkened, and his hand came up to my face and into my hair as he took a deep breath.

“Luna, what happened?” Dr. Castle asked. Markus lifted me up again and deposited me gently back in the hospital bed. The doctor was definitely addressing me, which confused me.

“Uhh, just got dizzy,” I answered, trying to get my head back to the present. “I have a migraine. Why are you calling me luna?” I asked.

No one answered me.

“Alpha Markus,” Dr. Castle said fifteen minutes later after doing an examination, and I started putting together my own answers. Alpha Markus, the doctor called him, and he'd called me luna. Did that mean... the tingles… “I can’t find anything wrong with her. She still needs rest to finish her healing, but she should be able to travel later today or tomorrow.” Dr. Castle's words wiped all the thoughts from my head as alarm bells started ringing in my head.

“Travel? Where am I traveling? Where am I going?” I asked, panicked.

“Can I speak with her alone, please?” Markus asked. Everyone shuffled out of the room. Maya looked unsure, but then one of the men gently guided her out.

“Celeste, have you met your wolf?” Markus asked out of nowhere. My eyes snapped away from the door back to him, and I felt the panic set in. They knew. Oh, Goddess, they knew. My eyes flitted from his face to the window.

“Celeste, it’s okay. No one is going to hurt you. You know what a mate bond is, right?” All I could do was nod. Suddenly, he looked less confident.

“D-Do you remember the night of the full moon before you passed out?” he asked.

“Sandra,” I whispered, memories flooding my senses.

“Yes, but before you passed out?” My eyes widened as I remembered seeing him in front of the crowd.

“Kar-Kara said you were our mate.” He smiled, and relief flashed across his face.

“Is Kara your wolf?” he asked, and I nodded.

“We are mates, Celeste. Do you know what that means?” I looked away, feeling humiliated that he would ask me that. I’m not an idiot. Every werewolf knows what a mate is.

“I know what that means. Just because I’m an omega doesn’t mean I’m dumb,” I snapped.

“Hey, look at me,” he ordered softly, pulling my chin so that I was facing him again. “I don’t think you’re dumb. No one here knows you’ve got your wolf, so I wasn’t sure if they’d taught you about how it works.”

“I’ve heard people talk.” I turned my head again, feeling ashamed of assuming the worst.

“Celeste, I need to know. How old are you?” I snapped my head to him again. Panic rising. I tried to stand up. I needed to run away. The lie I’d lived for eleven years was crumbling around me.

“It’s okay. It’s okay. We can talk about that later. When you feel safe, and you can trust me. Please, don’t run away from me. I promise I will never hurt you,” he said, grabbing my arm and feebly forcing me to stay put. The desperation in his voice is what made me stop. I was still breathing hard, but his touch calmed my panic, and I tried to think rationally.

I sat back on the bed and looked at the concern and sadness on his face. I felt a strong need to reach up and smooth away the frown lines on his brow. I wanted to soothe him the way he was doing to me, and I didn’t realize that my hand was moving of its own accord. I placed a hand on his cheek and felt the tingles and warmth spreading from the contact. I sighed when he closed his eyes and leaned into my hand.

We can trust mate,Kara said sleepily.

“No one can know,” I said quietly, and Markus opened his eyes. He nodded.
