“I am nineteen. I will be twenty in December. They think I am seventeen. I had to lie about my age.” This was the first time I’d said the words out loud, and I worked on pushing down the anxiety attack I wanted to have. In my heart, I felt I could trust him with my secret, but the door to that knowledge had been closed to the world for too long, and I didn’t know what would happen if Alpha Geoff found out. My mother and Uncle Lucien both warned me to keep this information from him.

“What’s your real name?” he asked.

“Celeste is my real name,” I said, pulling my hand from his face. It felt wrong to withhold information from him while I touched him. He looked at me for so long, waiting for me to continue, then looked away, but not before I could see some hurt in his eyes.

“I’m sorry. I haven’t told—“ He looked back at me with a small smile.

“It’s okay. Thank you for trusting me. No one here needs to know.” He gave a deep sigh and then placed my hand back on his cheek and took a deep breath.

“So, back to business. I am the alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack. That makes you the future luna of my pack. We will take it slow; don’t worry about being dumped into the position all at once. We will do things at your pace, but we do need to head back soon. We’ve been gone for five days, and I have duties to attend,” Markus said, closing his eyes as he spoke and leaning into my hand. My heart was fluttering, and the butterflies in my stomach were going crazy while my mind was going a mile a minute. I was a luna. I needed to learn to be luna, but the most important part of what he said was that I was leaving this goddess-forsaken place.

Finally, my mind caught up with everything, and I smiled widely before throwing my arms around him. Markus was surprised but held me tightly and chuckled.

“I take it you’re okay with leaving this place?” he asked, his breath tickling my ear.

“Yes, please.” I hugged him tighter.

Markus

Ifeltmyheartrace when Celeste hugged me, but I was still slightly disappointed. This woman already had my heart, but I didn’t even have her trust or her full name.

Someone hurt, mate. She is scared. We will earn her trust and protect her. No one will touch mate again,Atlas growled inside my head, pushing determination and strength into our bond.

Damn right, they won’t,I answered back with the same determination.

Celeste seemed to realize what she had done and backed away shyly, her face blushing adorably.

“We can leave tomorrow morning. You can rest a little longer,” I said, tucking a strand of her wild curls behind her ear, not wanting to stop touching her. The sparks I could feel were indescribable and addicting. She nodded, and I heard her stomach growl, forcing a laugh from me.

“How about we get some lunch, and then we can get your things packed up?” I asked.

‘She’s good. We’ll be leaving tomorrow. Can we get another order of whatever? She’s hungry,”I mind linked Gillian.

‘Way ahead of you. George is already back with more food.’I chuckled at his answer.

‘This is why you’re my beta,’I told him, meaning every word.

‘And don’t you forget it.’A couple of minutes later, he walked back in with Maya, the warriors, and another bag of food.

“Celeste, this is my beta, Gillian. This is George, Brent, and Zack. They are a few of my most trusted warriors.” I introduced her.

“Luna.” They bowed their heads in respect.

I grabbed a paper plate and handed it to her. She jumped slightly when my fingers brushed hers, sending sparks down both of our hands unexpectedly. It was the first indication that she felt them, too.

She feels the bond,Atlas said smugly. She will feel love for us soon.

I hope so, buddy, because we’ve already fallen pretty hard, and we don’t even know her real name. If she leaves us...

That woman was not father’s real mate. She did not feel the bond. Our mate is different. Like father’s true mate. She will love us,he assured me.

Let’s hope.

I saw her take a bite of food, and she looked at the burger in her hands with a little confusion.

“Is something wrong, Celeste?” I asked.

“I’ve never had fast food before. At least not that I remember. I didn’t think it would taste this good for something this squished,” she mumbled happily, taking another bite.
