“Alpha Markus, to be honest, the only thing I have found out is their identities. I don’t know that it will necessarily make or break your interrogation.”

“I appreciate any information you have for us,” Markus assured.

“Very well. The man with the long blonde hair is named Levi Garth and the one with dark hair is named Lucas Rogers. They belong to the Dessert Moon Pack near Tijuana. Sadly, we haven’t found a connection to the Blood Moon Pack.”

“I have,” I said once the man on the phone finished speaking. “Luna Luisa’s maiden name was Rogers. They must be related.”

“Cousin,” Markus said, a look on his face that said something finally made sense to him.

“Pardon?” Danny asked, lost.

“It’s what Lucas said while he was on the phone. He called the other person ‘cousin.’ That must be how they are related. Gillian, can you reach out to Dad’s contact in the council? Maybe he can look up the registries to see if we can connect them to confirm the relation.”

“I will give him a call,” Gillian agreed.

“Thank you so much for all of your help, Todd. I’ll be sure to let Alpha Rhett know how much help you’ve been to the investigation,” Markus said.

“Thank you, Alpha Markus. Danny, we’ll keep in touch.”

“Sounds good, man,” Danny said before he hung up the call.

We stood in silence for a moment as Gillian made his call. Once it was done, and he confirmed that the council member would call us back tomorrow, there was no putting it off anymore.

“Let’s go question the prisoners,” Markus said, his eyes flashing black, then back to grey as Atlas made his presence known.

IwishedCelestewouldhave gone up to bed instead of coming to watch the interrogation. It wasn’t even that I thought she was too sensitive about seeing someone tortured, but I didn’t want her to see that side of me. I didn’t want her to be scared of me. Atlas was worried what we were about to do would change how she looked at us.

‘Celeste, are you sure you want to see this? We will have to do things to make him talk. Things we don’t like doing but are necessary.’I asked one last time, hoping she would change her mind.

‘Kara said you’re worried about what we will think of you when you torture the prisoners. Is she right?’Celeste asked, and I sighed.

‘I’m not going to pretend she’s not right. We have to do things to make them talk. That usually means crossing a line I don’t generally like to cross, but if I believe the ends justify the means, I’m willing to do whatever it takes. What these fuckers did is more than worth leaving my morals at the door. I will get justice by any means necessary, and I don’t want you to see that side of me.’

‘You don’t have to bear this burden alone. Not anymore. This is also my fight. Whatever we do tonight, we will carry the moral repercussions together. This torment to our people ends this week, no matter what needs to be done.’

I laced my fingers through hers, feeling some of the tension leave my body at her words.

‘Together then,’I said.

‘Always.’

Keeping Celeste’s reassuring warmth at my side, we entered the dungeons. The two traffickers were in individual cells. Each one had a cot in a corner and a chair for questioning. One was wearing silver cuffs around the wrists and ankles, while the other wore standard cuffs around his right wrist and on the ankles. There were bandages over the stump where the left arm should be, and it was permeated with blood. I had ordered they didn’t put silver on him so he could heal enough to answer questions. He looked pale and still in pain. Good. That would make it easier to break him. I went to the blond one in the cuffs first to make him sweat. I wasn’t sure if he would break easily, but it might scare the other one already in pain, into talking. I didn’t want to be here longer than possible.

“Fasten him to the chair,” I instructed my men. The binds on the chair were not silver but strong enough to keep him still. It allowed me to hurt them more if their wolf could heal them as we went. Gillian brought over a tray with torture instruments I rarely had to use but made for a good show. I rolled up my sleeves and turned toward Celeste before I got started.

“Stay out of the cell. The chair is secured to the floor, but it’s not silver. I don’t want you anywhere near them,” I whispered to her as I pushed her to the corner with my body. I gave her a sweet kiss that no one could see and pressed my forehead to hers. I closed my eyes, inhaling her scent and turning it into my strength and motivation.

Ready Atlas?I asked.

Let’s protect what’s ours,Atlas growled and came forward enough so we both shared control. I opened my eyes, and Celeste’s filled with love at the sight of both her mates being present. I knew she could see one fully black iris and one gray.

I turned and entered the cell, everyone baring their necks to us when they noticed the presence of both wolf and man. Fully sharing control was something that couldn’t easily be achieved. It was a show of power and strength as well as a show of how deep the connection to our wolf was.

“You will tell me what I want to know, Levi,” Atlas’ and my voice were mixed together. Levi paled when he saw us and visibly started shaking when he realized we knew who he was. That was an interesting reaction. What was so important about knowing who he was?

‘Gillian, do we have someone we can trust in the Dessert Moon Pack?’I asked as I turned towards the small table of tools.
