No longer under control of my limbs, Atlas rushed at Sandra and backhanded her away from our mate. My beta ran to my side, along with my warriors, who surrounded me as I took control back from Atlas and bent down to pick up my mate. I gently pushed the hair from her face and roared again as I finally took in the extent of her injuries. Her eyes were bleeding, her jaw looked broken, and there were already bruises and swelling all over her face. There was blood flowing from some gashes on her abdomen, and that was just the external damage my eyes could see.

“ALPHA MARKUS, EXPLAIN YOURSELF!” Alpha Geoff roared at me, helping his daughter up from the ground.

“Your daughter was beating my mate,” I growled. I picked her up as gently as I could and started heading toward where I knew the pack grounds hospital was located.

‘Bring Maya. She looks like she needs medical attention too,’I mind-linked Gillian. I saw him walk towards her, gently lift her up and follow me. My warriors flanked us as we walked away from the crowd.

“That’s impossible. She isn’t even of age yet. How can she feel a mate bond?” Luna Luisa seethed.

“Perhaps you need to pay more attention, Luna Luisa. Some of her injuries are already healing. She clearly has her wolf,” I responded as calmly as I could.

“Where are you going?” Alpha Geoff demanded.

“To the hospital.”

“The omegas do not have hospital rights,” Sandra shrieked. “She can’t be your mate! She’s just trash!”

My eyes shifted to black again, and I let Atlas roar again, effectively shutting her up. Loud gasps and whispers exploded out from the other leaders when they heard what this vile woman had just said. I felt my fangs elongate while Atlas wrestled me for control. He wanted to destroy this woman who hurt our mate.

“You have committed crimes against my future luna and have admitted to denying basic necessities to your omegas. We will discuss the punishment for your transgression AFTER my mate has received medical attention. If you try to prevent help from being given, I will not hesitate to call the council. Maya and my mate are under the protection of the Crescent Moon Pack from this point forward. Attempting to hurt them will be considered a direct attack on my pack and a declaration of war. Who here will stand beside me?” Atlas looked at the crowd. Many of whom were still naked from the shift. Everyone but the members of Blood Moon stepped forward.

“This is ridiculous. Just wait until that piece of waste wakes. You will see how wrong he is, and I will expect an apology from each one of you,” Alpha Geoff yelled angrily before dragging Luna Luisa and his daughter into the pack house when he realized no one would support him.

Alpha Rhett stepped forward once they were gone, having put on a pair of shorts and handing me a pair. I gently shifted my mate in my arms to dress myself, not wanting anyone to touch her.

“You are sure, Markus?” he asked, and I nodded. “Then you have our support.”

“Thank you, my friend.”

Gillian put Maya down beside me and put on a pair of shorts as well. He then gently guided a petrified Maya toward the hospital beside me. She hesitated at the entrance.

“We’re not allowed,” she said.

“They can’t punish you. You won’t be staying here,” Gillian said softly, looking at me to confirm. I nodded and saw relief flood her face.

“You can leave the Blood Moon Pack. You are under the protection of Alpha Markus, and you will be allowed to join our pack,” Gillian assured her.

“What is her name? My mate?” I asked her.

“Celeste,” she said.

“The cook?” I asked, and she nodded.

We went through the double doors and noticed that, for a few omegas cleaning, the hospital was empty. Then, I heard someone trying to push behind us while my warriors growled.

“Alpha, if I may. My name is Dr. Castle. I am the pack doctor. I can help.” I heard an older man’s voice behind the wall my warriors were making in front of the door. I nodded at them to let him pass, and a gentleman in his fifties pushed through.

“This way, please,” he said, walking past me with hurried steps.

I carried my mate to a room and carefully laid her on the bed. I wasn’t keen on having him touch her, but I knew she needed help I couldn’t provide. I stepped to the side and sat on the chair by her side. After about forty minutes of checking her over and taking some X-rays, he finally gave me his findings.

“She’s got a broken jaw and several broken bones, including the left clavicle. Her left side orbital bone is broken but intact. It‘s safe to say that with the damage to her head, she most definitely has a concussion. I couldn’t feel or see any internal bleeding, though, and she is already healing. I believe you’re correct, and this young woman has her wolf. She would be healing much slower otherwise. She will likely sleep for a few days while her wolf heals her.” My eyes turned black, then flashed back grey several times while I tried to restrain Atlas from losing control. I couldn’t stop the growls that came from my throat as he explained how badly my mate was hurt, making the doctor shake as he struggled through his speech.

“I want my guards at the doors at all times. No one is to come in or come out except for the doctor unless I say so. We will remain here until she’s well enough to travel, and I want someone to bring another bed in here for Maya. She is also under my protection. I would like my clothes and a pillow brought to me. I will sleep in this room with her, and I want a room in the hospital set up where you and the guards can rest in shifts but close by,” I instructed my beta, who was already mind-linking my warriors. Then he brought out his phone to alert our pack that we would be delayed.

“Yes, Alpha,” he said, leaving the room to see my orders carried out with the doctor rushing out behind him.

I looked down at the woman in the bed. My mate. I was so sure I didn’t want a mate, and yet the moment I saw her, I wanted her in my arms, where I could protect her and murder the ones responsible for her suffering. I wanted to hold her and make her mine. I sighed and resigned myself to only being able to hold her hand right now while Atlas whined in the back of my mind as his anger turned to pain.
