“No, no, no, Danny, no. Please, not you. Danny, hang in there. Somebody help!” I screamed.

“Celeste, it’s okay,” he wheezed out with a cough.

“No, you fight. Maya needs you. We need you. You fucking fight,” I growled, using my Luna command, as he started losing consciousness. I felt Kara push through the silver cuffs, flowing enough strength into me so I could break them off my hands and let her forward. As soon as she was free, Kara reached out to the pack.

‘GET THE PACK DOCTOR HERE NOW,’she screamed through the mind-link.

Kara, we have to heal him, I told her.

I don’t know if we can Celeste. Only Selene decides who we can heal, she whimpered.

We have to. We can’t take him from Maya, I sobbed.

Okay. You start praying to the moon goddess. Maybe she will grant us this prayer. This is going to take a lot. We need our mate, she said.

‘Markus! I need you. Help me help Danny,’ I called through the mind-link.

“I’m right here, baby. What do you need? Tell me,” he said from behind, dropping to his knees beside me. I turned and briefly saw our warriors pulling a half-burned and soaking-wet Sandra out of the river.

“I need to heal him, but Kara said it’s going to take a lot of energy, just help us. Hold us. We have to get the silver out.” I turned back to Danny, who was unconscious now despite my command. His heart was barely beating, and I put my hands over his wound and started praying.

Please, Selene, don’t take him from Maya. Please don’t let him die protecting me,I repeated over and over. I ignored the cry of anguish coming from Maya as she arrived and saw her mate. I ignored Markus barking for Gillian to restrain her and Maya growling as she struggled to get to Danny. I even ignored Markus ordering everyone to leave when I saw my hands begin to glow.

I closed my eyes and sobbed a heartfelt thanks to Selene while Kara and I poured every bit of strength we had left into healing Danny. I opened my eyes when I felt my body lift. Danny and I were floating about a foot off the floor. Markus’s hands were on top of ours, and I looked back as he began to glow and float too when Kara and I began pulling from his strength.

Danny groaned as I watched the bullet slide out of his wound and fall to the floor. A small drip of silver came out of the hole; the power Selene granted us expelling all the poison from his system. The tiny stream hissed as it burned his flesh on the way out and fell to the sand beside the bullet. Danny coughed and groaned, then I heard Atlas in my head.

‘That’s enough, Tuli. He will live. We’ve healed him. He can finish healing on his own. Stop. It will hurt the pup,’ he growled as he removed our hands from Danny. The three of us dropped to the floor with small thuds, and I watched Maya fall next to Danny as he struggled to sit up, his wound still bleeding. I sent up another silent prayer of thanks to Selene before my world went dark.

Markus

Atlasranfasterwhenwe heard two shots, and screams sounded from behind me and in front of me. As we neared, I saw Celeste ripping off her silver cuffs, and suddenly Kara sent a mind-link to the entire pack, calling for the pack doctor. I was relieved to see them relatively unhurt, but when I saw Dash shift back into Danny, a bullet wound on his side, panic set back in. I shifted back and ran toward Celeste when I got her mind-link.

‘Markus! I need you. Help me help Danny.’

“I’m right here, baby. What do you need? Tell me,” I told her as I dropped beside her.

“I need to heal him, but Kara said it’s going to take a lot of energy, just help us. Hold us. We have to get the silver out.” I wanted to argue with her. I didn’t want her to put herself at risk, but I held my tongue. I knew this could be the difference between Danny making it or dying. By the way he was breathing, it sounded like the bullet had perforated his lung, and the fact he couldn’t stand up told me all I needed to know about what kind of bullet had been used.

Kara knows. She knows about the pup. She said the goddess told her when Celeste was given the wolfsbane. She’s been healing the pup. She said she can pull on our strength to heal Danny, but we can’t break contact,Atlas said in my head. Relief flooded through me that Kara knew about the pup and knew we could do this without hurting it, so I put my hands on top of Celeste’s over Danny’s wound.

Maya’s wolf, Esmeralda, arrived and quickly shifted back to Maya.

“Gillian, hold her,” I ordered, and Gillian grabbed onto Maya while she growled at him and struggled to get to her mate.

“Everyone out. Head back to the pack house and secure the prisoner. No one is to remain here but Gillian, Maya, and the pack doctor,” I commanded when Celeste’s hands began to glow. The guards were gone by the time the glow spread to Danny and Celeste’s entire body. When I started feeling Kara pull on my energy, the glow spread to me, and then we were floating about a foot off the ground. I watched in awe as a silver bullet slid out of his wound, and the silver particles that had already made it into his bloodstream began to dribble out. I started feeling tired and Kara started to slow the pull of energy, but Celeste hadn’t stopped pouring hers into Danny.

‘That’s enough, Tuli. He will live. We’ve healed him. He can finish healing on his own. Stop. It will hurt the pup,’ Atlas growled. I felt joy coming from Celeste for a split second before a feeling of exhaustion took over. The glowing stopped, and we dropped back to the ground shortly before I felt her faint.

“Dr. West,” I growled, and the doctor rushed forward, using the stethoscope on her flat stomach to check on our pup. After a bit, he got up and nodded to me.

“Strong heartbeat, Alpha. She likely just needs rest like last time, but I’d like to monitor her at the hospital.” I nodded at him before he moved over to Danny, who was still bleeding but was conscious and alert.

After getting checked out, Dr. West said Danny could walk back to the pack hospital, but he wanted Danny to spend the night to ensure there was no more silver remaining in his system.

“Gillian, please tell the alphas and the council that we will still be meeting first thing in the morning after Celeste wakes. Let them know what happened and that Blood Moon is officially at war with Crescent Moon for attempting to kill my luna. They will remain in the cells, and I want them in silver cuffs and chains all night. Anyone from our family who needs to see Celeste can come if Dr. West allows it, but they’ll have to be quiet. She needs to rest.”

“Yes, Alpha,” Gillian said, falling away from the group as we walked into the hospital. I followed behind Dr. West and placed Celeste gently down on the bed to which he directed me. Danny refused to leave Celeste, so they brought him another bed and monitors. Maya remained at his side, growling at anyone who suggested she move away so they could get him hooked up. Eventually, the nurses gave up and moved around her as they worked.
