“The white,” Finn nodded. I smiled as I untied the robe and turned on the shower. That’s why I loved having Finn as my bodyguard. He always helped with my outfit choices and I could walk around naked in front of him and he couldn’t care less.

Once I was dressed, he nodded towards the direction of my phone charging on the bedside table. “That thing hasn’t stopped going off all morning.”

I frowned as I walked over to it. He was right. I had 6 missed calls and a few unread texts. That was strange. Opening the call list, my heart flipped when I saw the caller ID. Rico. All of them were from him. My hands started shaking as I opened the texts.

Elle. What did you say to that client last night?

Elle. Ring me back ASAP!

This is serious. Flora is in shit. Ring me.

ELLE.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuckity fuck! What the hell is going on? My heart was hammering in my chest as I started biting my thumb nail and staring at the texts.

“Everything alright? Who is it?” Finn asked, sensing my concern immediately. I quickly plastered a smile on my face and shook my head.

“Oh, nothing. I just forgot I said I would help a friend today.”

“Who?” He questioned; his eyebrows furrowed. Why is he so nosey all the time? And he knew the very few friends that I was allowed to keep.

“Um, Sephie. I’ll call her later. We better go, or we are going to be late.”

“Why change a habit of a lifetime?” he chuckled, pulling himself up from the chair. I shot him a gesture with my middle finger which he pretended to bite, causing me to laugh. When he acted like this, he was my best friend Finn who I loved more than life itself but I could never quite forget who paid his generous wage. I tried not to dwell on that for too long. It had a tendency to make me spiral into a feeling of loneliness, that even my best friend was paid to hang out with me.

When we reached the yacht, I was, of course, the last one to arrive. I took a seat next to mamma who was bright eyed and bushy tailed as if her episode last night had never happened.

“Buongiorno amore mio,” she greeted me with a double kiss and I smiled politely as I sat down. Gio and Liv were both beaming from ear to ear and had the glossy, youthful glow that only truly being in love could bring. I watched them both with fascination. It was amazing how happiness and love can radiate from a person. I had never experienced it myself, but I hope one day I look like that.

Once everyone was in deep conversations around the table, I turned to mamma and whispered quietly, “How are you feeling, mamma?”

“Oh, better than ever,” she grinned back at me, her brown eyes twinkling behind her sunglasses. “It was such a lovely wedding, wasn’t it?”

I gave her a tight smile and nodded. Looks like we were pretending last night never happened. But I couldn’t let it go completely. “Mamma, did you remember to take your-”

“Yes.” She cut me off sternly. “Don’t worry about me, darling. All is wonderful.”

I picked up my glass of mimosa and caught Marco’s gaze from where he was standing protectively a few feet away from my siblings’ chairs. He gave me a curt nod of understanding and for some reason that reassured me more than her words. He was looking out for her. I could back off a little.

“So Maximus is in charge while I am away,” Gio announced to the table and I rolled my eyes. I couldn’t help it. My lovable rogue of a cousin was one of my favourite relatives, but whenever he had to step up into my fratello’s shoes, the power always went to his head.

“Have a problem with that Elle?” Max teased, raising his glass of Bloody Mary to his lips.

“No, why would I? It’s not like the last time you were in charge and you refused to let me go to my friend’s baby shower without six soldiers,” I smiled sweetly.

“Hey! I was only being extra cautious! Should anything happen to Boss’ little sorella while he was away, I would no longer have my dick. And I like my dick,” he smirked.

“So do I,” Cami whispered, while stroking the back of his hair that wasn’t tied up in his man bun. Urgh, another loved up pair to endure.

“God forbid if I would have come to any harm popping the gender reveal balloon!”

“Elenora. Just…try to stay out of trouble for two days. Please,” Giovanni directed his stern gaze on me. At that moment, my phone started vibrating in my bag again and I knew immediately who it would be. I knew I couldn’t keep ignoring his calls. Excusing myself from the table, I made my way to the lower deck and towards the bathroom. As soon as I locked myself in, I turned on the taps to create some noise cancellation and pulled out my phone. Rico was ringing again.

“Rico! What is it?” I whisper-yelled down the phone.

“Where have you been Elle? I have been ringing! Shit has gone South!”

“What do you mean?”
