“Well, it is a good job that I am gay then. Now both our hearts are spared,” he smirked.

“What are you doing here anyway? I gave you the day off.”

“I’ve been out. Saw someone. But I missed you too much to stay away,” he smiled but he had caught my attention. I sat up quickly, pulling my sunglasses off and throwing them to the side.

“Saw someone. That is very ambiguous!”

“A friend. I saw a friend.”

“A male friend?” I teased and he rolled his eyes, folding his arms over his chest.

“Yes. He was male.”

“Was it a date?” I couldn’t contain my excitement as I leaned in closer to him.

“No. It was not a date. Don’t get excited.”

I pouted but the way he refused to look me in the eye and the slight blush on his cheeks told me that it was very much a date. Or he at least wanted it to be. He saw me giving him a knowing look and chuckled awkwardly.

“It’s… it’s nothing,” he shrugged.

“It doesn’t look like nothing!” I launched myself off the sunbed and onto his lap, tickling his stomach to give me more information. “You are blushing! You like him! Tell me! Tell me who it is!”

“No!” he yelled between his laughter as he lifted me off him effortlessly and sat me between his legs.

“Elle! Gio and Liv are home!” Sani yelled from the kitchen window as I looked up. They weren’t meant to be back until tomorrow morning. What would have made them cut their honeymoon short? Finn seemed to be thinking the same thing as he stood up and helped me to my feet. I pulled over my sundress and we made our way through the house towards the grand entrance. Finn excused himself and walked over to the men outside who were grabbing suitcases out of the black car.

The door was already open and Liv and Gio made their way up the stone steps into the house. Gio looked super stressed and my heart dropped. I knew immediately that the reason they were back was not a good one. He briefly kissed Liv and let go of her hand, taking large strides up the stairs to his office where Max was waiting no doubt.

I stepped forward towards Liv as she opened her arms out for a hug and gave me a big smile.

“Liv, what are you doing back so soon?”

“Oh, you know how it is. The world falls apart without him.”

I instantly felt angry that Olivia’s honeymoon had been sabotaged because of some stupid mafia shit and that Gio couldn’t keep away for even one more night. The girl had given up so much for him already and he couldn’t even keep his phone switched ‘off’ on their honeymoon?

“It’s alright, Elle,” she smiled reassuringly when she saw my expression. “Gio wouldn’t have cut our honeymoon short if it wasn’t extremely important. And he promised me another one, so a girl can’t complain too much!”

“You are too nice!” I flung my arm around her shoulders and we walked towards the kitchen. “Well, I was bored out of my mind anyway, so let’s get a drink and you can tell me all about your honeymoon.”

“Hmm, I don’t think you’ll want to know the details,” she giggled. I pretended to gag at the thought of my brother having sex and she laughed even louder.

“No. Okay, spare me the details.”

“We did talk about you though…”

“Me? Why the hell would you talk about me on your honeymoon?” I laughed, shaking my head as I poured us both an iced latte and she saddled up onto the breakfast bar stool against the island.

“You just came up. Oh, thank you for the champagne by the way.”

“My pleasure,” I smiled. “I am glad you were able to drink it before you were forced to come home!”

“I asked Gio if I could set you up on a dating app.”

“You didn’t?” My eyes widened and my mouth hung open. “Let me guess… the answer was no.”

“He did say you could date, but he wants you to be with someone who can protect you. Who knows about the importance your name carries and who can handle the danger it brings.”
