“It means that you will be mine and mine alone. For as long as I want you to be.”

“For a moment there, I forgot how arrogant you are,” I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore how fucking wet his possessiveness made me.

“I always get what I want, Princess.”

“Hmmm, not always,” I smirked, reminding him of who had the upper hand in the club.

“Cazzo, I might just have to come back to Venice tomorrow and show you who is really in charge here.”

“When are you next in Venice?” I asked carefully, realising how eager I really was to see him again, but also needing to know how much time I had to try and figure this out. If I was really going to go through with this, I couldn’t keep sneaking around. I would be caught eventually and it would be horrendous for everyone involved.

“I am meant to be back for a meeting next week. But I might move it forward.”

Shit, I needed more time. Time to find out if this was something worth exposing myself for and potentially causing huge drama between Giovanni and me.

“I have plans this week. Next week will be better.”

“Then I guess we keep doing this where you give me blue fucking balls, Princess.”

I laughed hard at that. We continued to talk hours into the night. It was about 2 a.m. when he got another call coming through and he had to go. I wondered who would be ringing him that late at night but didn’t ask. I still had no idea what he did for work. Maybe I would bring that up in our next call. But for now, I sighed blissfully, that excited bubble in my chest swelling as I settled down in bed and fell into a deep sleep thinking only of him.

“Someone is in a good mood,” Liv stated as I danced around the kitchen, making myself a coffee. We used to have kitchen staff around the clock, but after a family meeting a few years ago we decided to only have them for dinner. Both mamma and I didn’t want Sani and Raya to grow up being completely pandered for, so this was a happy medium. Though I knew Gio still had our housekeeper, Lucinda, making his sandwiches, the lazy stronzo.

“I am,” I smiled, “Would you like a coffee?”

“No thanks. Does this happen to have anything to do with Rico?” she whispered his name and I frowned before I remembered I had allowed her to believe I was in fact texting him and not a man I met in a sex club.

“Maybe,” I teased, picking up the steaming mug of coffee and sipping it. Her green and gold eyes danced with excitement as she leaned back in her chair to look down the hallway to check we were alone.

“Tell me!”

I had been dying to speak to someone about this and I couldn’t hold back, diving forward onto the chair next to her, my words spilled out of my mouth with excitement.

“Liv! Oh my god, this man is so fucking hot. Seriously. But he actually has a personality too! We talked for hours on the phone last night and we really opened up about stuff. He told me about his family and places he’s visited and things he’s done. He swam with Great Whites in Australia, Liv! He loves travelling and he seems to be super adventurous like me. Oh, and he’s only two years older than me. And the connection we have… I have never felt this way about a guy, Liv. I am so attracted to him, the way he speaks, the things he says. We even had phone sex and I am not lying when I say it was better than any real sex I have ever had.”

Liv listened intently, her face displaying moments of surprise, happiness and laughter as I rambled on.

“You had phone sex?”

“Si. I recommend it,” I winked.

“Well, I don’t have much need for it, but I have always thought it would be kind of awkward. You know having to say sexy things to turn the person on. Wasn’t it embarrassing?”

“Honestly, no. Everything with him just feels so natural. And I was so turned on that my mouth just took control and I ran with it.”

She raised her eyebrows and shook her head. “Sounds like it’s getting serious.”

“What? Why? Because I had phone sex with him?” I scoffed. “We are living in the 21st century, Liv. Catch up.”

“No, because you haven’t stopped smiling the entire time you have been talking about him and before that. You obviously really like him.”

“I do. But it’s still too early. We have only been talking for a few days. There is still so much we don’t know about each other,” I frowned as that sinking feeling emerged once more. I didn’t even know his real name. I was too scared to ask in case he asked mine. “And there is Gio.”

“Hmmm,” Liv sighed. “I think it would be better if you just come clean to Gio sooner rather than later. Also, I was in the dark once about who this family really was. Trust me, it’s not a nice place to be.”

“I know that Liv, but what am I supposed to do? I am not allowed to tell him who I really am unless Gio approves it and even then, he will want me to be extremely serious about this guy to bring him into the circle of trust. It was easy with Luca because he already knew about us because of you. But Pan- Rico is different.” I dropped my head in my hands as I felt the reality hit me again. I had made such a mess of this already. If I came clean to Gio that would mean explaining where I really met him and that would not go down well at all. And then there is the matter of telling Panther that I never really was a worker but a mafia princess who was bored and needed to feel a sense of freedom for one night, so I did something utterly ridiculous like impersonating an exotic dancer. He would run a mile. I groaned loudly as I felt the room caving in, suffocating me under all the lies.

“I don’t like keeping this from Gio either, Elle. Just try and figure out if this guy is worth it and let me know. We can tell Gio together if you want? It might soften the blow.”
