I walked into my wardrobe and grabbed the dress I was going to wear for tonight. My papi had always said, if you really want to know a lot about a person, you find out what their greatest fear is. It says so much about them. What’s important to them, their morals, their values.

“You have to tell me what your greatest fear is.”

“What?” he chuckled.

“You heard me. If you want the picture, it has to be an honest answer. From the bottom of your heart.”

“And what if I don’t have a heart?”

“Haha. No picture.”

He groaned and then sighed, thinking for a moment. I paused what I was doing to wait for his answer.

“Being insignificant.”

I frowned deeply. That was not what I was expecting and I was completely baffled. What did he even mean by that?

“You are going to have to give me more than that,” I replied.

“We are all born into the world the same way, right?” he asked and I nodded although he couldn’t see me. “It is what we do with our lives that matters. I was born a nobody. My life didn’t matter. My life could have gone in any direction. I could have died tomorrow and it wouldn’t have meant anything to anyone. But a different path chose me and I have worked fucking hard to make something of it. If I died tomorrow, it would matter. My greatest fear is that one day it won’t.”

I rubbed my forehead, “So, your greatest fear is not actually dying but the thought of dying and it not meaning anything.”

“Correct,” he replied. I didn’t even know what to make of that. I was starting to realise that this man was super complex. “Now send me the picture. Please.”

I rolled my eyes and hit send.

“Cazzo,” he breathed and my insides lit up at his exclamation. “You have a perfect body.”

“Oh dio! I don’t!” I chuckled. I knew I had been blessed with curves, but I still had my own personal hang ups that I would change. Everyone surely does?

“You do to me.”

A knock on my bedroom door made me dive for the phone and hang up in panic. Finn poked his head around with a smirk.

“I knew you wouldn’t be ready.”

“I am nearly ready! I just have to dry my hair.”

“So, I will tell them we will meet them there then,” he chuckled and left the room again. I breathed out a sigh of relief. The phone started ringing again.

“Sorry,” I explained quickly, “I dropped my phone and it hung up by accident.”

“No problem,” Panther husked. “I know you have to go, but I just wanted to let you know that you have made me a very happy and fucking horny man tonight. I will be staring at that picture all night.”

“Well, I am glad I have made your evening.”

“You have. I’ll text you. Reply.”

“Yes, sir.”

He growled into the phone again and I giggled.

“Fuck me.”

He hung up on those words and I laughed loudly, loving how much of an effect I seemed to have over him like he had on me.

The restaurant Gio had selected was one he owned in the middle of Verona. An elegant but understated restaurant that sat in the heart of the piazza. The floor manager greeted me, recognising me immediately as I entered and took my coat before I made my way over to the only table that was occupied. Another thing my fratello likes to do; book the entire restaurant out for special occasions. I froze as I counted the heads and spotted a spare seat at the table. Finn nearly ran right into the back of me.
