“I am old, not blind.” She winks at me.

Raiden and Smiley help Landon get up. His arms go over their shoulders and they skate him off the ice and help him walk down the tunnel.

Fuck.

As much I want to be there for him, the trainers wouldn’t let me near him while examining him. Plus, Hudson is still out here.

Dammit.

Tears well in my eyes. I have to be strong. I’ll see him after the game, he will be fine. There's only a couple of minutes left. It’s going to be fine.

The refs take back control and drop the puck in our zone for another heart wrenching faceoff. I don’t know how many more I can handle in our zone.

The third line is out there, doing a great job of keeping the other team from getting any shots on net.

The clock is counting down very slowly. Is this thing working properly?

The puck is in Baylor’s zone, finally, both coaches call for a line change. First lines are back out, with the exception of Landon. A guy from the second line joins Raiden on defense.

The pressure is on.

Lynx goes full force toward the puck, blocking the guy with it in the corner. Their sticks battling for possession.

Lynx gets it and shoots it out, Hudson gets it, but is immediately attacked by two of Baylor's guys.

He shoots it back to Raiden, who doesn’t keep it long, passing it to Lynx.

Lynx skates around the net, trying for a wraparound. The goalie stops it, and the whistle blows, bringing us into another faceoff.

Lynx takes it.

What are they up to? We have less than a minute left. We are ahead one nothing, why do we need to try shit?

Baylor wins the face off. See? This was stupid.

They surround Baylor’s guys, not letting them get out of their zone. Sticks are swiping left to right on the ice. Which is clearly aggravating Baylor. Smitty skates forward, trying to challenge the guy with the puck, trying to force him into doing something stupid.

Maybe this wasn’t a bad idea.

My friend grabs my hand again. “They did it, sweetie.” Before I can scold her for jumping the gun, the buzzer sounds. I hug her while bouncing up and down.

We won!

Tears run down my face when I let go of her and face the rink. The rest of the team invades the ice, the coaching and training staff follow. Then, from the tunnel, Landon steps out on the ice, still in full gear, and the crowd gets louder cheering that he is ok.

The team celebrates with each other, then forms a line to congratulate Baylor with handshakes. The ice gets set up for the trophy ceremony while that happens.

Baylor leaves the ice and some powerful hockey guy says a speech, which I truly don’t care about. Just give them the trophy!

A few more minutes pass before the speech ends and Hudson skates up, accepting the trophy on behalf of the team and the school. I snap a few photos as he lifts it up, kissing it, then skates back to the team to continue celebrating with them.

I snap a couple more pictures when Landon holds it, then I sneak out of the stands. I want to be able to congratulate them in person outside of the locker room.

It’s been over an hour, but some guys start to make their way out of the locker area. I decided to wait outside the double doors like a true groupie fan instead of using my staff access.

The doors swing open, Hudson bursts out of the locker room buzzing. I’ve never seen him so happy.

Flynn, who is a counselor at Groveton has also been out here waiting with me for his guys, moves his body next to me so his back facing me. It’s odd, but I don’t question it.
