Lila left to retrieve the celebratory drink.

Charlie turned to me and gave me a huge hug. “I love you, Nathan. I’m so glad you’re here for this.”

“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.” I kissed the top of her head as Lila reemerged with three glasses.

“None for me,” I insisted.

“Nathan,” she pouted. “You have to celebrate with us.”

“Oliver is dragging me rock climbing. I need a clear head.”

Charlie nodded. “He’s right. I need him to come home in one piece after all.”

“Fair,” Lila said, pouring her and Charlie a glass.

Oliver and my relationship had improved tenfold the past few months. Even though I moved out, we were closer than ever. He came over at least once a week to hang out with Charlie and me. Harrison even joined him sometimes, much to my dismay.

Even though our communication had improved, Oliver’s need to drag me on death-defying activities had not lessened. What had changed, however, was the fact that I found myself actually enjoying them lately. No one was more surprised than me when snowboarding turned out to be my new favorite hobby. I was already counting down the days until next season.

“I should probably go get changed. Oliver will be here at seven.”

“Wow, not staying to celebrate with us? Not very supportive,” Lila teased.

I started to back out of the room. “I figured you both should spend the day celebrating just the two of you so I booked you spa appointments. Then, tonight there may or may not be a little party planned for the launch.”

Lila and Charlie glanced at each other, eyes brimming with excitement.

I chuckled. “Pretend to be surprised, okay?”

Charlie ran to me and stole a kiss. “You’re seriously amazing, you know that?”

“You’reamazing,” I echoed.

She nudged my shoulder. “Don’t die out there, okay? I can’t lose my star developer.”

Smiling, I kissed her forehead. “You couldn’t lose me if you tried.”
