My entire body spasmed as I clung to him, and we both fell over the edge.

Breathing hard, he pressed his forehead to mine as we both came down from the high.

Grogginess floodedmy mind as my brain slowly started waking up. Opening my eyes, I blinked a few times. I looked around the immaculate hotel room, momentarily forgetting where I was. Then it all came crashing back to me.

Nathan all over me last night—again and again. I jerked up to see him sitting on the other side of the hotel room, already dressed and drinking a coffee. Fumbling with the sheet, I clutched it to me to cover my still naked body.

“Um, morning,” I said, cheeks burning.

“Morning.” He sipped his coffee without looking the least bit flustered.

“Would you mind?” I signaled for him to turn the other way.

He smirked but shifted in his chair to avert his eyes. I realized he had already seen everything of mine last night, but there was something that felt more vulnerable about letting him see me in the daylight. Thankfully, he gave no snarky remarkabout my request. I shot out of bed, collecting my clothes along the way and pulling them over myself.

"So last night was…fun," I finished pathetically.

He turned back to look at me, head tilted.

"You okay, Charlie? You seem a little tense. Did you sleep alright?"

I wanted to laugh. As if my discomfort had anything to do with how I slept versus the activity that preceded the sleeping.

"Oh, I slept fine. It's been a while since I've slept with someone else actually. My ex used to hog the covers and snore so it was honestly the worst," I was full-on rambling now but I was helpless to stop the word vomit. "You aren't like that at all though," I added hurriedly. "Very good sleep partner...uh...and partner for other things."

My face was likely beet red at this point. Instead of interrupting and saving me from myself, Nathan just sat there and sipped his coffee, staring at me.

Was he amused? Annoyed? Why wasn't he saying anything?

"I'm glad that presentation went so well yesterday," I said, shifting gears. I was talking a mile a minute at this point and Nathan looked confused at my change of subject.

"Me too."

"Oh my god, work," I said, suddenly horrified. "We have to go to work together."

Nathan furrowed his brow, looking at me like I should be medicated. "And this is a surprise to you?"

"No, right. Of course it isn't." My forced laugh came out maniacal. "It's just—we just...we just slept together, right? And you're my boss. And will that be awkward? Or how do we handle that?"

He sighed deeply and pinched the bridge of his nose.

His reaction caused the hairs on my arm to stand up.

He regretted what we did last night. Of course he did. I was such an idiot. Here he was trying to figure out how to let me down easy, and I was rambling about how amazing it was.

I started to backpedal. "I mean, obviously I won't tell anyone."

He jerked his gaze up. "You won't?"

I waved my hand as if last night was no big deal. "Of course not."

He nodded and looked down again. He put down his mug and rubbed his forehead. "Charlie, I—"

"It's okay!" I exclaimed, backing toward the door. The last thing I could handle hearing right now was his cold rejection. "This would make things so weird at work. It would just be way better to pretend like this never happened."

Nathan clenched his jaw and shook his head slowly before staring at the wall behind me.

"That's really what you want?" he asked.
