Did it mean Talan was no longer with me?

I snapped my head up and peered around.

I was once again back in my pod.

But now, I was alone.

Talan wasn’t there.

But there weren’t any other pods either.

Just me in a room filled with black.

I balled up my hands and hammered at the glass. “No… not again! Please!”

“Nine…”

A big rectangular light flicked on and made me stumble back.

It was a screen, but not a regular TV but three dimensional.

A holo-TV?

“Eight…”

A scene played out before me, depicting a perfect copy of the original pod room, with four alien males around the outside and me and Talan lashed together in the middle.

I loved seeing him again but… this was only a replay.

A replay of what exactly?

“Seven…”

The replay showed us leaving our pod for the first time, stepping into the world of the Mating Games, eyes wide with apprehension.

I would have laughed if I didn’t know what was going on, where Talan was.

The footage transitioned to our various escapades: dodging the monster, scaling trees, and even moments of our most intense intimacy.

The highlights had been edited to showcase the trials and tribulations we faced, alongside our blossoming romance.

“Whatisthis?” I said outloud.

Each time the screen displayed our hardships, the audience’s cheers grew louder, filling the hall with a cacophony of sound.

The duo they saw was filled with bravery, passion, and a bond that no game could sever.

Just when I thought the highlight reel was over, the scene showcased the moment we believed we had lost: our confrontation with Krexar.

The footage had been edited for dramatic effect, emphasizing the danger and the despair, followed by our last-ditch effort to save each other.

As the video came to an end, an uproar of applause echoed through the darkness of the room.

The same robotic voice that performed the countdown announced:

“Congratulations to the Champions of the Mating Games!”

That’s when it hit me.
