His fervor and strength were palpable.

Every hack echoed through the quiet air, resonating with the frustration and desperation he felt.

Ting, ting, ting!

Sweat glistened on his forehead as he delivered blow after blow, each strike harder and more forceful than the last.

Ting, ting, ting, ting, ting!

The chain shivered and rattled under his onslaught, yet it remained stubbornly intact.

Ting, ting, ting!

“Talan!” I cried, halting his frenzied attempts. “Stop! You’ll hurt yourself!”

He paused, panting heavily, and we both stared down at the chainlink.

It was then that we noticed the peculiar marks on them.

Gashes and dents made by Talan’s persistent efforts, but even as we watched, the metal seemed to shimmer and shift.

To our disbelief, the chain began to heal itself, the marks slowly disappearing until it looked as pristine as before.

The implications hit us hard.

This wasn’t just any chain.

It had properties beyond our understanding.

Properties that made it indestructible.

Our confinement to each other was unbreakable, at least by any means we currently had at our disposal.

A heavy silence settled between us, punctuated only by our ragged breaths.

I was touched by his concern but there was no use in attempting to break an unbreakable bond.

“Everything is going to be okay,” I said. “You wait and see.”

He smiled at me and I smiled right back.

I fell into those deep golden eyes of his, so rich that they might have been molten gold.

And his lips… they shimmered with light the way his whole scaly body seemed to.

And I felt myself drawn to them.

They were all I could see.

I wanted to taste them, to savor them and feel them upon my body…

Then something moved out the corner of my eye.

I glanced toward the sheer mountainside and noticed a large golden orb.

At its center was a slit, much like a cat’s and red veins that crisscrossed it.

Strange,I thought.I could swear that hadn’t been there a moment ago…
