But I also didn’t want to get crushed to death like before.

The Zylvari wasn’t going down so easily.

With a feral snarl, he bucked Talan off, and the two once again stood face to face, panting and eyeing each other with an intense predatory gaze.

For a moment, there was an eerie silence, punctuated only by their labored breathing and the distant calls of jungle creatures.

Then, with a deep, weary sigh, the Zylvari backed away, pulling out a flute-like weapon made from thick purple bamboo.

My heart sank.

That instrument fired darts that could potentially spell the end for Talan.

“Enough of this,” the Zylvari rasped, his yellow eyes still locked onto Talan. “We can sharre the female. No need forr more violence.”

His snarling snout made him roll his r’s.

My stomach churned at his words.

Share?

Like I was some sort of prize to be divided?

Fear coiled tight in my belly, but I knew Talan would never agree.

The Zylvari continued, wheezing slightly. “Accept my offerr, or I shoot you with poison. Yourr choice.”

Talan’s gaze never wavered. “If you had any poison left in that toy of yours, you would’ve used it already.”

The Zylvari’s smirk was both mocking and self-assured. “Perrhaps. But arre you willing to take that gamble?”

Talan’s response was swift and certain. “The answer isno. There can only be one winning alien male and you will turn on me the first chance you get.”

The tense silence returned.

The jungle around us seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the next move.

And then, with a malevolent glint in his eyes, the Zylvari let the flute drop from his hand. “So be it.”

With an animalistic roar, he launched himself at Talan, signaling the renewal of their brutal fight.

The ferocity of their battle was almost mesmerizing.

I might have been watching a lethal dance rather than a struggle for survival.

Only this time, I wasn’t merely a spectator; I was apartof the rhythm, intertwined with Talan as we faced the monstrous Zylvari together.

Every movement, every sway and step, felt magnified tenfold due to the handcuffs binding Talan and me.

His pull would jerk me one way, then another, as the fight raged on.

But instead of resisting, I began to anticipate his movements, using our connection to flow with him.

I felt our combined energy, two beings synchronized in this deadly dance.

We’d become one entity, pushing and pulling against the Zylvari’s assaults.
